Xyzzy, I see you have a new avatar! Could I steal it if/when you change again

Xyzzy, where do you get the new avatar's from? I am looking for a new one.

Thanks

My son "researches" Pokemon. His whole life revolves around them. As a side effect, I've become a "Pokemon Master".

The good news is he can read really well, and he is only 5, so I guess they are educational in a weird way. He knows the stats for all 395 of them.

My avatar is "Pidgey" which is #016. I just think he's the coolest looking one so I chose him.

If you want one let me know which one you like and I will work it up for you. It takes about an hour to make one so make sure whichever one you want is the one you really want.

BTW, I used a .png for the file format. Does the image show up okay in other browsers? I wanted transparency and I'm trying to avoid using a .gif format.

Finally, here is a list:
Xyzzy, where do you get the new avatar's from? I am looking for a new one.
Usually I "procure" them from other forums I read. There are avatar archives out there but I like to get them the way I do. If an avatar jumps out at me when I am reading then I know it is a good one.

Sometimes I will try to make one from an existing image, but only certain images work well. I like to work from a high resolution master. The Pidgey image was around 800x800 pixels. After I'm done I just scale it down carefully and usually that hides the mistakes I have made.

It depends. By other browsers do you mean lousy ones or good ones?

On lousy ones the transparency doesn't work well... I see a brown background.

EDIT: Oh, I even forgot to say what I was planning to say i this post originally! I think Sandshrew maybe would be a good avatar...

Maybe I'll hardcode the forum color in then. The colors used to alternate I think but now every avatar is backed with the same color so I think we can get away with it.

I'll have it done by tomorrow. Who are we going to give your current avatar to then?

Xyzzy 2006-06-15 19:39

Does the hard-coded background look better?

(I don't have access to "bad" browsers!)

Much better now!

You forgot great ones.

Since I started using Opera myself, I have only used IE when required (at someone's house, at work, or when visiting a :censored:  website that is dependant on IE). It does RSS, POP, and more.

Xyzzy, could you modify my avatar to remove the background. I am not sure on how to do this.

Thanks
