Amazing!...
I have to admit that the Intel folks have done a great job this time.
And one shouldn´t forget that the CPU can run 2 tests simultaneously.
By the way it would be interesting to have some timings with two instances running.

E6600@3GHz benchmarks

1 Attachment(s)
Here you'll find both FullBench and AdvBench results for E6600 running at 3GHz.

FullBench has been performed on both 32 and 64bit versions in three environments:

Running benchmark with no other application running.
Running benchmark with one instance of LLR running without setting affinity.
Running benchmark at affinity=1 with one instance of LLR running at affinity=0.
Key conclusions:

64bit version is faster for TF till 64bits, and afterwards it is slower than 32bit version.
64bit version is generally slightly slower for FFT>=1792k (there are a few exceptions to this).
Setting affinity doesn't really matter performance-wise (differences are negligible).
There is a slight performance hit when running other application (LLR).
As for AdvBench results, there are some speed improvements possible specifically for the following FFT ranges (for both 32bit and 64bit versions):

384k-896k range
3584k-32768k range
Attached is the ZIP file with all raw data + XLS sheet to play with

request for benchmark

Cruelty,

Thanks for the benchmarks. If possible, can you repeat your benchmark test (just for the one instance by itself environment) of the E6600 Core 2 Duo for both 32 and 64 bit Prime95 for these conditions???

a) run the processor at stock speed (2.40 Ghz rather than 3)
b) turn off MMX,SSE,and SSE2 for the benchmarks (CPUsupports...=0)

If you could, I would appreciate it; if not, I understand. Thanx in advance

William

wfgarnett3 2006-08-29 05:33

Cruelty, that's condition a) and b) simultaneously. I tried editing the message, but something isn't letting me.

I will do it today evening and post results latest tomorow morning CET (I have problems with Internet @ home  )...

Prime95 2006-08-29 12:26

You cannot turn off SSE2 in 64-bit prime95.

Here are the requested results for both 32 and 64bit versions. First results in each file are for 3GHz and the second results are for 2.4GHz.
Something interesting happens when disabling all instructions except SSE2: for FFT>=2048 there is a speed increase...

wfgarnett3 2006-08-29 23:00

Cruelty,

I just read your private message, and yes, actually I just wanted SSE, 3DNow, and SSE2 turned off; you can keep cmov, prefetch, and rdtsc on. So when you get a chance, create a zip file again with the following results for BOTH fullbench and allbench:

a) CPU @2.4 Ghz (stock speed), 32 bit Prime 95, all CPU options turned on (default).
b) CPU@2.4 Ghz, 64 bit Prime 95, all CPU options on (default)
c) CPU@2.4 Ghz, 32 bit Prime 95, SSE,3DNow, and SSE2 turned off

If you happen to have an opteron/athlon 64... near 2400 Mhz in your possession, feel free to the above benchmarks for whatever version (xx-bit) Prime95 you have on that machine.

No rush, and thanx again; appreciate it.

William
