FF 3.6.28 :showoff:
one thought that came to me is that your browser probably doesn't know of HTML5 and the article tag. edit: I had to put this here because I can't PM you. |
As for the fixed width. I think you misunderstand me. Not everyone sets their window to 1000px wide, some have it smaller.
I have my monitor at work set in portrait mode and notice sites frequently that are set to be landscape. Have not had the opportunity to look at the mock page on it yet.

I followed the advice out there to make sure older browsers wont choke on those HTML5 semantic elements, by adding a simple inline script with a series of document.createElement for the different things like nav, section, main, article, footer, header, etc. Of course if someone wants to purposely disable all type="text/javascript" then I can't help that. |

LOL... okay, I *know* it's not going to look good in a text browser like Lynx or whatever that was. |

Yeah, that's Lynx. If he were really a text browser user, he'd be using links2 or something else more advanced ;) |

Take the new one back, and look for an add-on called "classic theme restorer", it is currently version 1.1.18 or newer (that is what I have). It worth the effort! The new firefox has many fixes (inclusive security) and is much faster, assuming you can restore the old "reasonable" theme and not use the idiotic new themes. In the new firefox, click tools, addons, and browse for the theme restorer. [/offtopic]
Thanks to these words of wisdom () I am no longer mired in an ancient historical version of Firefox, but running 32.0.2. No issues here ATM. |
EDIT:
It probably needs a fair amount of "pixel polish" to get some alignments squared away, but I didn't want to grind on the details until I thought the overall design seemed good enough to run with.
I'd written a post focusing on the polish part (colours, centering), but I will save it to post for later if wanted. The menu is fine on the left, but then I prefer the expanding menu to the popout one. I always feel as though popout menus delay my navigation. The menu colours do not bother me, but neither are the colours necessary. I would add "Join" and "Download" buttons to the top center, in place of the Donate button and text about joining GIMPS. I think the picture should be separate from the main header. I don't miss the newest users section. I would like to see the translate button removed. |
Previously the 'OFFICIAL "SERVER PROBLEMS" THREAD' was used only to report problems and the posts were deleted once the problem was dealt with. Now the thread has become a discussion of the hardware and software changes. Shouldn't all the posts dealing with the changes be moved to a new thread something like "GIMPS Server update" ?
You're right, and I thought about it, but then I figured that people who know enough to check this forum thread are exactly the kind of people who would want to know about changes to the hardware... other folks probably don't care. And they're also the ones that are likely to give some good feedback on any design changes. I guess it's up to y'all or xyzzy if a new thread would be better. It makes sense I suppose, as long as people check it and are able to give feedback on things. EDIT: Okay, I created a new thread. I'll keep my discussions of the new web design there. Starting... *now* :) |

Is it me or is the manual submission's page acting up? I've tried both firefox and IE and no luck. URL: http://www.mersenne.org/manual_result/ |
