Does the system try to divide submitted factors by any already known factors?
An interesting observation. I may include some part of this in mersenne.ca even if it's not used in mersenne.org
Checking whether the large (possibly-composite) factor divides said exponent isn't any more complex than checking a small factor so we will already know if the large factor is a legitimate factor (prime or composite). If we can factor out smaller know prime factors we will either end up with no remainder (composite of known primes), or some remainder that is a factor of the exponent, but we still can't be certain whether it's prime or not (it could still be a composite of 2+ previously-unknown primes). But if it included in part some known-factor component then the actual factoring process would be faster.
IMO, we don't need to worry about the user experience of someone trying to spam the server with known composite factors.
I'm not particularly concerned with their user experience. My concern lies simply with reducing server load and mitigating potential DoS-type attacks (whether malicious or simply some misguided user).
I just submitted manual results for double checks on 33464617 and 33464659, and received error messages in the manual results page which I did not copy.
Please try resubmitting these results. Let me know if you get error messages or the exponents are not marked verified.
LaurV just brought to my attention that something is wrong with one of our "traded" machines.
[Comm thread Aug 19 13:39] PrimeNet error 13: Server database full or broken
[Comm thread Aug 19 13:39] Insert t_gimps_LL_results failed for M55297633
I initially assumed I had made a mistake, but then I realized that none of my systems produced the quoted error message.
Have you tried resubmitting these LL results?? James is actively working on the manual submission web page.

I can't, the physical machine is behind Chris' fence, and he is kinda busy right now.

The two exponents are still stuck (54586327 and 55297633).

For some reason the two mprime instances hung. I killed them and restarted, and the results were submitted successfully.

I was about to say... I checked the two exponents that were mentioned and they got checked into the database okay earlier today.

So far everything has been looking good on the new server. George and James have been working hard to track down some of those PHP warnings that, fortunately at this point, seem more cosmetic than critical.

Hopefully this "server problems" thread will be used less and less for reporting actual server problems.

Indeed.

Sincere thanks to Scott, George, James and you for your continued efforts. It is very comforting to know there's a strong team behind Primenet!

To M49, and beyond!!!

I'm not seeing the new results for those two exponents. http://www.mersenne.org/report_exponent/default.php?exp_lo=33464617&exp_hi=33464659&full=1

Can you submit them manually?

Different situation. I submitted the two LL results hung for LaurV. You'll have to ask richs to resubmit his two DCs.

Madpoo 2014-08-23 16:50
The issue I noted in post #504 still exists.

My manual results for two double checks on 33464617 and 33464659 are in limbo according to the exponent status page: http://www.mersenne.org/report_exponent/default.php?exp_lo=33464617&exp_hi=33464659.

I tried resubmitting via manual results and was advised: "Error code: 40, error text: This computer has already sent in this LL result."

They do not show up in my results. Would someone be able to tweak these two results so they are recognized by the server? Thanks!
Yeah, I think you'll have to resubmit those if you can. It looks like in this case the server never actually got the manual submission, or at least I can't find the temp file it should have created with that info. Otherwise I would have just resubmitted it on your behalf, but it's not there.

EDIT: I looked in the web code to see how it would check if you've already submitted a result. I didn't see anything that would match, so George may have cleaned stuff up for you to be able to resubmit? Or maybe it just happened when he and James were working on the manual result page and it threw a false positive your way. Either way, doing it again *should* work. Let us know if you still get an error of some sort.
