Even sticking with IPv4 you might not even always recognize an IP address, like http://2899904110 or http://0xACD9066E
(both are alternate representations of 172.217.6.110 = google.com)
That's interesting. The ones I am used to are all numeric, like 151.134.200.100. IPv6 is hex based, I believe. Mine here are a mix of both. Running ipconfig /all from a command prompt window shows everything. This is for Windows. Linux, I would have no idea where to look.

Primenet seems to still be having intermittent issues. Example: I have my browser link set to the "Manual Assignment" page. When done there, I have a habit of clicking on "Home." Sometimes, I get the white screen, and other times, not. The same applies to "Logout" in the upper-right corner.

This could be my browser. It is Firefox v79.0. Supposedly, the latest and greatest if you count them as they go by. This may be something in its cache it is pulling from. I clear the cache every few days with C-Cleaner. I will clear it again to see if there is any difference.

PrimeNet is allowing TF assignments down it the DC Cat 0-2 area.
Anything that low should not be having TF done, especially if it has already been done to a reasonable level.
Here is a current very grievous example:
53301539 No factors below 274

2020-08-02 Waldir Walter Junior trial factoring 0.0 % 2020-08-02
Wildcat factoring in that range might be ok, but not assignments. Can't PrimeNet have a rule that the first ~60,000 in the DC range are off-limits to TF? And the first ~60,000 that are open to TF should have a 60 day expiry.

This is somewhat off-topic: "Wildcat factoring." That is a good name for it. I look at recent results and see hundreds of TF's way up. The vast majority are above 900-million. There is no need for this now. They need to come down and work near the wavefront.

That person is at least not doing any harm, so his/her usefulnes is minimal, but still positive!
The vast majority are above 900-million. There is no need for this now. They need to come down and work near the wavefront.
Haven't you also (at least in times past) done TF work well beyond 1000M?
As long as people do the work they're assigned, and assign the work they do, I don't think anyone else has a right to complain about them doing what amuses them.

Yes I have, and you are correct. If they choose to spend their time and resources doing what they like, then who am I to complain. My apologies.

I noticed that bunch of the assignments in the LL-DC range have no expiration date.
https://www.mersenne.org/assignments/?exp_lo=52146719&exp_hi=54000000&execm=1&exp1=1&extf=1&exfirst=1
Why is that? According to the assignment rules many of them should be close to expiring already.

The server seems to show the full residue (including the last 2 digits) for PRP CF's before they have been verified?

Not a big deal compared to the "real" PRP tests, but still weird.

This has been happening on/off for a few days, but currently I cannot get it to work. I've tried a few different browsers and configurations, to no avail. Thank you.

Uncwilly 2020-08-11 04:52

I have been getting that off and on for a while too.
Try a link to something other than the front page. Like this: https://www.mersenne.org/primenet/
Does that work?
