Can I support in anyway? Do you have a backup of that disk?
I should have backups of the data which is at most 2 days old. I'm not sure when the last backup was taken. The backup disk holds backups of (almost) all my machines, including the one which has died. Restoring from those backups isn't entirely trivial until BackupPC is running again.

A replacement system disk is on order. When it arrives it should take perhaps a day to get everything working again. Unfortunately that day may not be soon if the disk arrives while I'm away for two days next week and then again for two weeks after June 9th.

Of course, if you want to run a server we (jyb ad I) will help you take over the project ...

My crunching laptop is on Windows and no updates made since 3 years ago so I'm not sure if I should host an ecmserver but I can give a try. Probably I'll need a firewall to protect me against attacks. Also can you check if my IP is static or dynamic on my account as you have moderator power. I suppose here in the UK IP's are static from Virgin.

As far as I can tell you probably have a dynamic ip address. There are ways around this. The server admins over at NPLB are probably good people to talk to as they have had to do that.
It is probably easier for xilman to run an established setup.

It's possible that a HCN ecmnet server is running again as before. Please feel free to give it a try but if it doesn't work it might not do so for several days as I'm on the road again tomorrow.
A quick status update because we're close to a milestone now. At the GCW page the number of fully factored numbers is 10996 and the number of composites has fallen to 11022. Those totals should reach equality quite soon because Sam Wagstaff and I have several in progress by SNFS and the remaining c16x candidates will soon be tested to a full t55 ready for completion by GNFS.

Over at the ECMNET server (09.109.168.71:8194) there are 6501 candidates being issued tasks with B1=11M, corresponding to a t45. Jeff Gilchrist has found two factors in the last couple of weeks.
Sorry, I'm confused. Why did you post this here? Was it intended for this thread perhaps?

Thanks.

HCN ECMnet server down

It appears to have stopped accepting outside connections at around 15:50 GMT yesterday (July 12).

xilman 2016-07-13 15:47

Mea culpa.

The machine was rebooted after installing security patches and I failed to restart the server.

Someone named rob147147@<censored> appears to have found a factor. I don't recognize the address so I'll mail him/she/it to get the details. Unless I found out through this post first ...

Paul,

Please check HCN page at http://www.leyland.vispa.com/numth/factorization/anbn/main.htm because I am getting the message: "I can't cope with this any more. If anyone has any half-way decent suggestions, please let me know." Has your website been hacked?

Paul needs to be left alone for a bit. Let it go for now.
