New 800 MHz FSB

Does anybody have figures for the new 875P chipset from Intel, supporting 800 MHz FSB and 2-channel DDR 400? Some MB manufacturers are already proposing solutions based upon it. I think LL testing will benefit from the higher FSB speed / memory bandwidth, but how much?

The only 800MHz CPU (SL6WK/SL6WU) was recalled right after it shipped... Apparently they will starting to ship them again next week...

Bye-Bye, RDRAM
But the 875P will also be known for what it does not include. The chipset is Intel's first product in about six months for high-end PCs that does not include Rambus RDRAM. Instead, the 875P includes dual-channel support for 400MHz double data rate SDRAM, or DDR400.

"There was a situation where Intel's DDR platform had not been at the level of competing platforms," said Dean McCarron, chief analyst at Mercury Research. "This allows Intel to have an offering for every performance level. It represents a significant improvement in input-output capability" for PCs.
So, looks like RDRAM is going to be fading into the sunset.

800 MHz is up and running!

Intel has solved the problem! The 800 MHz FSB P4 is being shipped. You can read about it at this Ziff Davis article: http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,3959,1036659,00.asp

And I saw a comment somewhere that ABit is already setting up to overclock - can *you* say "1 Ghz FSB"?

I forget the name of the boards (3 varients so far) offhand, but they'll get a lot of press soon enough.

It should be the IC7 (IC7-G)...

Hi,

I'm new here so I guess I should say Hello first.

Hello.

Anyway I got myself an 800MHz FSB Pentium 4 2.4C, currently running at 260 * 12 (3120) - it is quite stable at this speed (24h torture test with V23.4 without any hickups). So I thought I would post some benchmarks for it. Hyperthreading is enabled. The MB is an Abit IC7-G mentioned before.

Here we go:

Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40GHz
CPU speed: 3121.66 MHz
CPU features: RDTSC, CMOV, PREFETCH, MMX, SSE, SSE2
L1 cache size: 8 KB
L2 cache size: 512 KB
L1 cache line size: 64 bytes
L2 cache line size: 128 bytes
TLBS: 64
Prime95 version 23.4, RdtscTiming=1
Best time for 384K FFT length: 11.548 ms.
Best time for 448K FFT length: 13.731 ms.
Best time for 512K FFT length: 15.588 ms.
Best time for 640K FFT length: 18.688 ms.

Hi MAtthes and Welcome to the club!
Nice times, actually!
Are you using standard heatsink for your 30% overclocked PC? What about Voltages and RAM?
Did you try some Benchies disabling HT? And what about running two copies of Prime95? (Maybe you could try running two LL-test at same time or one LL and a DC or a factoring job or some combination of these)
Regards from Italy!

Guido

Hey Gudio,

thanx for the warm welcome.

I'm using an SLK900U from Thermalright (one monster of a copper heatsink) with a Pabst 2000RPM 92mm fan. It is kinda running on the hotside with 61C. I am planning on upgrading the fan and getting a better thermal grease so I can keep it at 55C I hope. Voltage is 1.55 for Vcore (although my powersupply is kinda crappy, so it is actually somewhere around 1.52). Vdimm is 2.8 with PC3500 Geil DDR @ 2-3-3-6 running at DDR416.

EDIT: Oh yeah that is 512MB of RAM (2 Sticks of 256MB so the dualchannel stuff works)

I might give your HT tests a try in a while, I'll keep you posted.

Regards and my congrats to Italy for winning the Champions League (although that was clear before they played :-))

Just wondering what acceptable temps are for a P4 2.53Ghz

I have about 57C when running Prime95 for a couple of hours. This sounds hot to me am I right ? what are reasonable temps and maximum temps?

Thanks

Hi! Have a look here:
http://processorfinder.intel.com/scripts/details.asp?sSpec=SL6SJ&ProcFam=483&PkgType=5882&SysBusSpd=5419&CorSpd=5409
Your temps are absolutely acceptable. Anyway Prime95 (or mPrime under Linux) is a very good test for CPU temps: try to check your results.txt file. If you don't find any error, there isn't any good reason to be concerned.
Regards
