For work on lmh and other projects could you add a setting were writeing to results will be done once a cache file has reached a curtain size so that insted of constantly writeing to the hard disk it will hold data in memory.

Wow - that sentence (and I use the term very loosely) is worthy of some kind of bad-spell-check poetry award.
Guess I'd better translate this into Moovian, as well: begin{moovian} w00t - that cent tense (and eye yews the term very lose lea) is were thee of sum kind of bald-spill-chick paltry a word? end{moovian} |
Interesting study Ewmayer. Have you noted that your posts of late have a marked sarcastic component? Some of them could even be called caustic. Life is frustrating, but we get more from it if we have an upbeat attitude. We are better company to others. We also reap what we sow.
Let me ask this. In spite of the poor grammar, is there a benefit to the underlying suggestion above? One of the things I found irritating about Prime95 was its habit of writing to the disk too often. Fortunately, there was a setting that reduced it to a minor background nuisance. I use a laptop so disk writes are a major factor in power use. :coffee: Fusion |
I genuinely think this is one of Moo's best attempts at writing so far. And he did use a full stop at the end.
If you read through it in order it does actually parse quite easily. Some other examples of his writing convey ideas but however punctuated would not parse correctly. So, we should be thankful. It was also concise in that he got all his request into ONE sentence. Moo you could throw in a comma or too to help us read. Also please note the word "writing" has no E in it. "Certain" is not the same as the things you hang on your windows, and the grammatical purists will suggest that if you ask a question you should end it with ? Nonetheless it was crystal clear to me what you were requesting. |

 I agree with you for most of the posts I read and Sigmund Freud says so and also Karl Yung (spot the missspelling?) or the hyphen missing? A comma makes a difference in Bible reading and sometimes a 'full stop'. But does the same apply to a technial question?. And if you are happy Peter I've also added a full stop at the end!!! moo 'Go on and faith will come to you.' J d' Alembert Mally :coffee: |

There's no need to pick on someone just because he may be using bad English. English might not be his first language after all.

To actually try and answer the question: If you click on Options, Preferences, the third item on the list is Minutes Between Disk-writes. I believe that you can (within reason) change that to anything you want. Does that answer your question? |

He has already demonstrated in this forum that he is entirely capable of producing good quality, highly understandable English. If we are picking on him at all, it's because he seems to be too lazy to produce comprehensible text more of the time. Paul |

Paul, One of the many things I respect about you is the number of times you have stepped into a thread in which experts were ridiculing a poorly posed question with the injunction to “answer the question as asked”. It surprises me, therefore, to see you taking this stance, especially as your seems indicates that you are aware of other possibilities. Moo might, and I plead no special knowledge of him, be handicapped in some way that means that typing is not as trivial a task as it is for you and I. This would mean that those occasions when he has posted cogent grammatical sentences represent a supreme effort on his part out of all proportion to their contribution to the thread. Or then again he might just be lazy. But I’m afraid I don’t understand why people who cannot be bothered or don’t have the time / inclination / interest or facility [insert your own reasons] to decode the message he sent can’t just leave it alone rather than risk offending someone whose world might, for all we know, be very different from yours. An escapee from the US public education system.
Writing in coherent sentences and spelling are a LD as classified by the public school districts in my area. Unfortunately my writing motor skills are sufficiently lacking so is my grammar. Hence you will not see commas but I have come to the terms that I have misstated my question. So I will restate it. I would like to make a request for a feature were prime95 writes results to a ram file and once after so many results are written to this file that prime95 will then write them to the results.txt this would cut down on the number of disk writes and if the option is not set then it will be disabled by default. This was mainly focused on cutting down on the wasted cycles that prime95 uses to write each and every results to the results file. |
Moo, if it truly is a learning disability as you say, then I apologize. I still don't understand how some of your posts can be coherent and well-written, but others well-nigh impenetrable. If it is a matter of simply taking a little extra time, then, as this forum is a purely written medium, I suggest you do so - not so differently from our many members for whom English is not a first language.

NOI
If you are going to quote me, please do not quote me out of context. I wrote: "If we are picking on him at all, it's because he seems to be too lazy to produce comprehensible text more of the time.". You omitted the all important conditional "If we are picking on him at all". I was not and am not picking on him. I observed that moo has posted coherent and cogent text here before. Shortly afterwards he wrote a followup posting that was, again, coherent and cogent. There is no doubt at all that he is capable of doing so. As to the use of the word "seems", of course there are other possibilities. He may, for instance, be challenging us to decipher his meaning. Alternatively, he may be using a form of communication which is fully appropriate and comprehensible to another section of his cohorts --- in much the same way that bilingual speakers will use different languages according to whom they are speaking. I reminded him, successfully as it turned out, that communication has at least two parties and that if he wishes to communicate he should endeavour to use mutually intelligible language. As for "leaving alone" I believe in these two things: I want to be informed of errors I make so that I am less likely to make them in future; that correcting significant errors in others, though often an irritation to them, helps their development and helps them become more effective in future. In this case, the "correction" was more in the nature of a reminder. At age 16, someone should surely be realising that being able to communicate effectively gives them great power and that it is to their own personal benefit, financially and otherwise, if they improve the clarity of their communications. Mally: Personally, I find the term "boy" demeaning when applied to a 16-year old male, other than in contexts where it could equally well be applied to , say, a 46-year old. In many places, such a "boy" can legally marry a "girl" of at least the same age, can be imprisoned for years or decades if found guilty of committing certain crimes and can serve in his country's armed forces with the risk to life and bodily integrity that implies. That said, I apologize if I offended anyone with my posting. Paul |
Moo, have you tried "WellBehavedWork=1" in prime.ini?
|
This would be something for the results.txt file.
You can reduce the number of times worktodo.ini is read and written by setting in prime.ini: WellBehavedWork=1 This only works for worktodo.ini files that contain only Factor= lines. Only turn this on if you have BIG worktodo.ini files and each Factor= operation does not take much time. You must stop prime95 before manually editing the worktodo.ini file. |

That said, I apologize if I offended anyone with my posting. Paul
 O.K. Old boy, but I dont agree with your definition of a boy. This is the age of adolescence which is the age ending in 'teen' and 16 qualifies. I dont consider it demeaning at that age and as a matter of fact its a term of endearment for that age and more. I also insinuated the difference of age between Moo and the others by emphasising it thereby calling him a boy. I did not mean to degrade him as perhaps you have done; hence your apology. Im beginning to agree with Numbers first para in post #12. Please dont get touchy on small matters which only emanate from small minds, In India we have a saying 'Those who point a finger at others have 4 fingers pointing back at them!' Given in good faith. apology
moo,
I wish to apologize for having, a few months ago in some thread, once commented to you about capitalization and punctuation, after having refrained from doing so earlier in my forum-acquaintance with you. I decided early in my Internet experience that commenting on others' spelling, punctuation, grammar, and so on wasn't worth doing for any purpose other than strictly clarification of meaning. Furthermore, I know from my own life that I, or anyone else, can have perfectly good reasons for doing something that appears odd to other people (which is why there are more eccentric oldsters than eccentric youngsters -- we gain courage to be different as we age). But somehow I (a) developed a theory that you were deliberately disregarding some of the "rules" for the purpose of demonstrating that communication of the Web didn't need to abide by them (I had, alas, stereotyped you as "rebellious teenager" once I learned your age), (b) forgot to make any attempt to test whether that theory was correct, and (c) forgot my earlier resolution, when I saw others posting such comments about spelling and so forth in that months-ago thread. You've taught me not to do that again (though I may forget the lesson sometime). Thank you for that, and for all your contributions to this forum. Sincerely, Richard ("cheesehead") Woods |

:surprised This is completely a de trop comment and detracts one from the main topic. Nevertheless if you want to nit pick I am game for it! You must learn to think laterally which evidently you dont from my observation on this insolent repartee. Its simply Newtons third law of motion. Action is equal to Reaction. Also in QM the observer is as important as the observed. In my case two fingers to you!. How many fingers does that make?? :squash: I refrain from making any racial comments on the U.S. though we are neutral. But remember we (Indians) were civilsed 5000 years ago when the rest were barbarians! :showoff: Mally :coffee: |
Mally,
Not to digress too far from the topic in hand, but I must respectfully disagree with the statement that Indians were civilized 5000 years ago. You did not define what you meant by "civilized" for beginners. You also did not mention that many of the relics from that far back are in fact weapons. I would ask if people who engage in warfare are truly civilized? Just for curiosity, what do you know about the "7 Rishi Cities". Fusion - who knows this could get really deep! :surprised |
Things are getting really off-topic, so I'm locking the thread. Might I suggest any further discussion of the mechanics of finger-pointing and the origins of Indian civilization be moved to either the Lounge or the SoapBox?
