The Pope and Nostradamus.
The Pope and Nostradamus; In a post which was actually prompted indirectly By Ewmayer, and so I took down from my shelves ‘The Complete Prophecies of Nostradamus (Milennium edition) edited by Ned Halley and leafed through it. I quite by accident came across quatrain numbered 5/74 I found it very relevant for this day and age. And so I reproduce the English translation from the original French work written in the 16th century. It is well known that the German cardinal Joseph Ratzinger succeeded his predecessor Pope John the 23rd., after his death, and today occupies the Papal seat in his place. The following prophecy is numbered 5/74 with no particular date given as in the rest of his quatrains which are not in chronological order and hence keeps us guessing. Well here is it: “A German heart will be born of Trojan blood He will rise to great power He will drive out the Arab foreigners Restoring the Church to her former glory” At the time of publication (2000) the editor’s footnote is ‘The world awaits a German to restore the glory of the Catholic Church. None in sight.’ I have not come across any mention of this prophecy which should have been widely publicised at the time of Pope Benedict 16th ascended the Papal seat/throne. Or did the College of Cardinals keep it a secret? Mally :coffee: |
I would prefer to think that the College of Cardinals either was unaware of it or wisely chose to ignore it. Nostradamus produced so much material, often hard to interpret or downright ambiguous, that occasionally some appears close to partly right. Prophecy should be clear and not ambiguous. In any case, how could the members of the College keep the passage secret? It's a public, widely-available work!

Much like the horoscopes in some of the tabloid newspapers:
"You will meet someone with a vowel in their name." Bah, and I was looking forward to that trip to Wales. ;-) |

it amused me greatly when the 2000 edition came out with something like "new revised" flashed across the cover: I thought Nostradamus died 400 years ago. |
Minor, minor nitpick:
Benedict XVI succeeded John Paul II, who succeeded John Paul I, then John XXIII :) |
That's very funny, Richard :)
Minor, minor nitpick:
Benedict XVI
I think he should have chosen the name Pope John Paul, George and Ringo. Paul |

Paul
Pope Dewey, Hewey, & Lewey??? Pope Moe, Larry, Curly? How can the leader of the Catholic church, claiming to follow the teachings of Christ, protect child molestors, and their protectors as the last two Popes have done? |
and don't forget Shemp
Pope Chester might be a more appropriate dei-onym. |
The Pope and Nostradamus.
 How about Pope Eddie and Charlie
or Pope B.G. (s) Mally :coffee: |

------ Prophecy should be clear and not ambiguous. In any case, how could the members of the College keep the passage secret? It's a public, widely-available work!
 Well the church is very secretive in such matters. It is widely known that the Pope is elected by the conclave of Cardinals in total secrecy. If they reach a decision they send up white smoke up a tall chimney so the public outside may rejoice. If not then gloomy black smoke. Of cousre ,White signifies good and black evil. This reminds me of the total secrecy the Church insists on in other matters. For instance confession to the priest etc. Well in keeping with this rule two priests after a strenuous week of sermons of fire and brimstone decide that they need a vacation very badly. They dip into the gigantic funds of the parish collection and pick Hawaii as their vacation destination. They decide in keeping with Church rules to go inconito in toto. So they pick on flashy Hawaiian bush shirts, short shorts, and fancy slippers from the local store. On their first day at the beach and the sun shining brightly they enjoy the scenery. Soon a curvaceous blonde in a thong bikini passes by. She smiles at them and wishes them " Good morning fathers". The priests look surreptitiously at her and then at themselves but keep quiet lest their secret is out. The next day again they are out sunning themselves after a night of excessive booze and resultant hangover. Again the scene is repeated. This time the curvy blonde is in a string bikini. She makes the same greeting. "Good morning fathers". The elder priest gets annoyed and calls out 'Hey madam ! We are priests and are proud to be such. Pray tell us "How did you guess ?" "Father Thomas" she replies "I am Sister Mary Francis " So there you are, so much for the secrecy of the church !! Mally :coffee: |
