x86 PIC
Radio Shack is selling (in the U.S. at least) a new psuedo PC called the
Personal Internet Communicator (PIC) it has a 366 Mhz x86 AMD Geode GX, running Windows CE with XP extensions, 128 MB RAM, 10 GB disk. 4 USB, VGA port, 56K modem. $300 with a $50 rebate. The 366 Mhz Geode GX uses 1 watt, should be fanless/quiet. I wonder if Prime95 would run on it, at least in factoring ? Or any other factoring/math/distributed programs. |
Anyone ever try it?

AMD Geode is based on the K7, so the Athlon code should run on it. Now getting prime95 to run on it may difficult, because the APIs may be different.

Not this variant of Geode. Geode NX is actually a K7, but Geode GX is based on National Semiconductor's Geode series, which was derived from the Cyrix M2/6x86 design. The GX is fine with integer code but really bad at FP stuff. |
