Proofreading my FAQ?

Hi. I've tried to write a guide to how to operate PSP, S/R B5 and 321 from Mersenneforum.

I was wondering if any of you would bother proofreading it? I'm not an expert so I've probably screwed up somewhere. :confused:
Also, any suggestions would be great!
It can be found here

To be honest, I think ldautch's version was a bit outdated (it linked to LLR 2.0).

Thanks in advance
OH

looks good and is no too short! good work

OmbooHankvald 2005-07-06 16:35

Thanks! If it's useful, will you consider maybe linking to it in the "getting started" thread? I would really appreciate it! :smile:

How about adding instructions for LLRnet?

Great idea (I forgot about it). Coming up probably in a day or two.

OmbooHankvald 2005-07-07 10:05

Done. Is it ok or have I missed something?

em99010pepe 2005-07-07 10:18

OmbooHankvald,

Good work!

I'm still reading what you have done but I have a doubt in the Sieving a range with Mikael Klasson’s proth_sieve section. In point 4 you have the link for sob.dat. That one is for SOB project but I usually use this one for PSP project.
My doubt is: are both the same file ( I really dont know)?If not you should add both links.

Cheers,

Carlos

Mystwalker 2005-07-07 11:03

That's right, the sob.dat are different.

btw.:
Omboo, could you change the coloring a bit? Esp. the links are not that easy to read on the black background.
But concerning the contents, I really like your manual. :smile:

OmbooHankvald 2005-07-07 15:46

Thanks both of you!

I've tried fixing it. Unfortunately I suck at colouring, but I've tried something a little more simple.
Better?

Thanks for the very good job you did with your guide text. :bow: :bow: :bow: :bow:

OmbooHankvald,

Sorry but one more thing I think you should add to your great guide.
I use this software to monitor and control my sieve range. It also estimates the crunching time.

Lars,
what version of llrnet does llrnet_windows linked on ldausch.de contain?

Citrix

ltd 2005-07-07 20:55

It is still the old version. I did not find the time till now to create a new package with the new llrnet client and a modified config file.

If anybody has the time to create these files please mail them to me or tell me a place where i can download them and i will change them on my server.

@Citrix:
Did the two mails from the last two days reach you or is there a mail problem on my side again?

Isn't rieselator only to RieselSieve? It asks for RieselStatus.dat. Do you mean this? Can both be used for both Riesel and Sierpinski? Is there any difference at all?

@Ltd: I think RieselSieve has a version of LLRNET. I don't know if it's newer than yours, but I post this anyway.

Thanks for all the positive response :w00t: , I'll keep improving it!

The rieselsieve one is the newest one available. I did not yet find the time to look what configs have to be modified to make it a work for PSP. If you have such a version ready please send it to me. ( Then i don't have to find everything out myself :wink: )

for the FAQ we have to thank you. Specialy for not only to all this work for one project but doing it for several projects!!!!!!

You can also use rieselator on PSP. There's no difference at all. You just have to setup it like this:

rieselator.ini file

[Settings]
Machines=1
LaunchCopyNewURL=1
CopyNewURL=
SpeedAvgIntervals=5
Username=em99010pepe
Password=
Login=1
[Machine 0]
Name=AMD 64 3000+
FactorPath=C:\DC\PSP\sieve\fact.txt (path to your fact.txt file)
StatusPath=C:\DC\PSP\sieve\SoBStatus.dat (path to your SoBStatus.dat file)
LastOldFactor=

Cheers,

Carlos

EDIT: There's one difference. You cannot send the factors automatically to PSP.

Well, I could get on RieselSieve using your version just by editing the server and port so maybe it'll work the other way around too? (I can't check it now because the server is down).

Little update

I've tried adding some info about Rieselator and Sobistrator.

I'll wait to see what happens before changing my guide to LLRNET

@Lars: It wasn't much of a change, but I've placed my (simple) guess of a config-file here when footmaster comes around we can try if it works. All the other stuff in the file is up to the individual user, so I've only changed the necessary (I think).

OH

em99010pepe 2005-07-09 21:27

Go here.

You say:
How to use Rieselator/Sobistrator:

I’m assuming you’re now happily running proth_sieve, but maybe you want to know how long it takes to complete your range? You can use Rieselator for that.

Rieselator is a helpful tool, which allows you to monitor proth_sieve at multiple computers at once and see how long it takes to finish a range. There is also a Sobistrator available to those who are testing k*b^n+1 instead of –1:
Look what is in bold. In my opinion sobistrator/rieselator are the same software and are independent of the test made. The dat file is the one who gives the format of the number to test.

Cheers,

Carlos

Does that mean that if Sob.dat is in the proth_sieve directory, then rieselator automatically turns itself to sobistrator?

Does that mean that I can enter the SobStatus into Rieselator without having to edit the ini file? Also: If they are the same, then what was the point in hosting both? :unsure: I'm a bit confused here...
Just tested the sobistrator.exe and it's equal to rieselator.exe. Only the version is different, 1.19 to rieselator.exe and 1.20 to sobistrator.exe.

You have to edit the ini file because Rieselator asks for the RieselStatus.

If you are confused just post Sobistrator in your guide. Don't need to edit the ini file.

What is wrong in your text is that text in bold. Someone please correct me if I am wrong. I'm getting sleepy.

Short desciptions

I've tried adding short descriptions of the projects here and once again I would ask if any of you would make sure I'm not writing something wrong :redface: . It's nothing big 'cause I'm focusing on making a site whereto people can say "look here if you are n00b".

Thanks again
There is also a Rieselator available to those who are testing k*b^n+1 instead of –1
Shouldn't it be the inverse??? Sob tests for k*b^n+1 and rieselsieve tests for k*b^n-1... Correct me if I'm wrong. :unsure:

Contributions welcome

I've opened for outside contributions to the site. Please come with suggestions whether it's another colour on the website, a new projects guide, something on theories or a private server :razz:

I'm hoping that there someday may be some kind of centralized guide-database maybe similar to the one Kirk Pearson has on projects (not on geocities of course, but right now geocities will have to do...)

Well, Jean Penné somewhere said that LLR should be used or +1 numbers and PRP on -1 numbers. However, I've changed it now :smile:

It's really nice to have people like you around fetofs!

fetofs 2005-09-04 19:49

Sorry about the double post.... :blush:

Proofread4: In the page about factoring for SoB with Prime95, you should tell people to add "results.txt=fact.txt". That way P95 won't overwrite the results file every time you complete a range, having to download the large file again.
Where does it still link to them?
In the program explanation pages (NewPGen, proth_sieve, LLR, LLRNET) and in the "checking for SSE2" page.

OmbooHankvald 2005-09-04 20:10

Thank you again fetofs! I've corrected that now. Those were some of my oldest guides and apparently I haven't bothered fixing them :blush:

I've mentioned you among the contributors on the index-page. If you want your real name there (or want yourself removed) just tell me.

fetofs 2005-09-22 01:22

Just something I noticed when writing for the mersennewiki: In your proth_sieve guide, it seems like the link to the sob.dat is pointing to a n1-20m dat. Although, the sieving thread on SoB says that from now on, you must use a 991-50m dat. It even points to ranges that have been redone with it to check for high-n factors, so please link to the other dat (I think the links change from time to time, as my current link has a date on it)
http://www.teamprimerib.com/vjs/SoB.dat_20050718.zip

Citrix 2005-09-26 22:06

Guide needed!

OH,
Could you write a guide on how to create a dat for proth_sieve? Several people have asked me on how to do this in the past. It would be easier for me to just point them to your website.

Thanks,
Citrix
