So now you are complaining about Professor Mayer's "tone".

It seems that we are infested with posts from people who want to
present their "arguments" in a public forum, but whom respond to any criticism
with "boo hoo. You are being mean and nasty".

Grow up. Learn the difference between criticisms of your *work*, from criticisms of you personally. Learn to accept the former without accusing your
critic of being incorrect in his/her "tone".

Hmm, personally, that comment didn't strike me as particularly harsh... maybe slightly pointed in his recommendation to learn some programming yourself (sound advice, imo!), but not rude.

Some people seem to equate a suggestion that they learn something
with "rudeness". :yucky: :furious:

Whether it be Mayer, Silverman,myself or any other there can be no excuse
for either bad language or bad tone. A forum, after all, is a place for exchanging
information in a light- hearted manner . What is important is that each member
contributes in a manner not designed to hurt. I am sure the administrator
and the rest will agree.

Sorry but i believe you might be overreacting. Humanity does stupid things sometimes. First get over it even tho the words may sting.... even tho there not reall bad i didnt see any foul lang i might be looking at the wrong post. but still you have to get over it and welcome to the internet were all we do is sit at terminals growing old and typeing into some software that will broadcast are words around the word if plesed. Next dont create a thread about it its just stupid to complain and moan and groan at least that is what i found in expearences espessially for something like whay may said but still like i said earlier i might be in wrong post if you would pls copy what offended you so i can see what ur talking about or better yet how bought a link....

Ah, there we have identified the point at which opions differ.

Many people, I suggest, would omit the words "in a light-hearted manner" from that statement.

My personal view is that that phrase should be replaced by something like "in a civilized manner". Robust statements are entirely acceptable, as long as they can both be justified by sound reasoning and by their property of addressing ideas, proposals, etc, and not the person making them.

Just to correct an earlier typo and minimize the searching, it appears the post he is referring to is in the "Programming a Test" thread, not "Programming a Theorem"; both in MATH.
