35M-36M to 2^60
Hi all,
after a lot of p-1 work (and a little ecm) in the lower range (<2M) I'd like to start some other factoring. If the range 35M-36M is ok I will report the result files from time to time to George as usual. I'm curious to see the good progress in our status page ! |
Can you tell us what your end factoring bits will be?

Bad luck - only two factors found (4316 exponents tested)
At first I found very quickly two factors - but then nothing more. I checked hardware and software - no fault found. I reduced depth to 59 bit to increase speed and changed to the end of the range - no factor found. So I guess that this range is already pre-factored to 60 bit or even more (unfortunately the nofactor file says 58 bit). Anyway, for me it was a waste of time, nevertheless the result files are reported to George to inform him about that issue.
Today I started with some ranges between 37.1 and 38.5M (57->58 bit), found 3 factors within 5 hours (~200 exponents) - that looks normal and let hope. So, for the next time I'm going to work in that new range to fill these 57 bit holes (about 16500 exponents). After that (if my other faster machines are are available) I'm going to increase the depth to 59 or 60 bit - or to restart the old range (35-36M). I'll post it then. Hartmut |
I recall someone posting earlier about some testing being done on development clients, and found factors were returned (since it is easy to test if they are correct), but because it is a test client, no results were returned for exponents where no factors were found, because they might be incorrect. Sounds likely to be what happened with this range.

The 37.1 to 38.5M range that you talk about has already been done to 58 bits by henk. Are you using the latest nofactor.cmp from March 27. If not, you work might be going to waste. |

I noticed too that there were no factors to be found in that range. Nevertheless I continued since we have no method available to figure out which exponents are involved and to which depth. I mailed George on the issue. The testclient theory sounds plausible. YotN, Henk. |

Garo, thanks for that hint. Of course I've downloaded the latest nofactor file - but I forgot to unzip it ...(sh... happens)
Ok, this was only less than one day of work (compared to weeks before) and now I'm sure that my machine is working properly. So please tell me what 1M range between 37-40M is available for me and I would start factoring to 60 bit. As I mentioned before, I would also continue 35-36M if I have more computing power available. But at the moment I've got only a PIII 650 running and I like to feel some success again. Hartmut |
