Domain name ideas...
 

I have been waiting to see if we can get zoned into mersenne.org but it looks like that is never going to happen... (I was hoping for forum.mersenne.org or something like that!)

Anyways, adding a real domain name to this forum is trivial... We just need to think of a name and then vote for it...

My nominations are...

gimpsforum.com
mersenneforum.com
primeforum.com

Note I used .com on these... I think .org is more suitable, but in my experience people type .com by instinct...

Toss out some ideas and I'll arrange a poll once we get a few good ideas...

You mean, like they type mersenne[u][b].org[/b][/u]? I vote for mersenneforum.org or GIMPSforum.org

gimpsforum.org would be my first pick.
mersenneforum.org is a very close second . . . could go either way.

Couldn't we have the .com as well and simply point it at the .org?

Yes, but that would cost me twice as much...

My vote is for gimpsforum.org - and [b]please[/b] avoid a .com if you can!

As for cost ("twice as much"): tell me where to send a dollar via PayPal or similar - I'm sure others will chip in, too.

Since the GIMPS domain is mersenne.org, it seems that by extension the GIMPS forum should be mersenneforum.org .

I guess if we merely wanted to pump up page views we should call it something completely random like, oh, annakournikovahothothot.com, but that would probably get us (well actually, just Mike :)) sued.

My daughter: "I like that guy with the Eeyore picture, he's funny."

My choice would be mersenneforum.org, or perhaps mersenneforum[b]s[/b].org.

Anything with GIMPS in the name makes me think of people who just limp along :surprised:ops:

BTW, a quick whois reveals that primeforum.com, primeforums.com, and primeforum.org are taken... :(

I think a .org forum is more appropriate! Most people either know where to be or coming to the forum from mersenne.org or from some search engine I think.

Heh, as you can probably tell Mike, I've been pretty busy, and haven't been able to keep up with the forums recently. Anyway...
We had a baby girl on Thursday night, one week ago now. Her due date was actually March 22, so she came as a bit of suprise. However, it seems that doctors just messed up her due date, because she was 7lb, 3oz, which is not a premature weight :) . She's really smart and active, and I'm sure I'll be able to get her involved in some mathematical field when she gets older :D , and I'll definitely make sure she becomes a 2nd generation GIMPS participant :D ;) .

It now turns out it is good not to be in the mersenne.org domain. Wen that domain is down, there is communication possible through this back up.
