Will participation increase again?

After M24,036,583 participation soared. Will it again? Might depend on the media\internet presentation of M25,xxx,xx1. Too close to Mers-41 for comfort?
Why do people join or quit the priming game?
I guess about nobody is in it for the prize money or the rare glories.
How many are in it since 1997? I found myself scattered over four different identities:
(sounds like a disease  )
Rank Acc ID LL P90* CPU yrs*
2063 Wouter Meeussen 76,27 40
17967 wouter meeussen 3,37 36
28599 W. Meeussen 0,94 10
2832 S98444 53,726 21
cause: PC crash, new PC, new email address & Acc ID (forgot old one).

keep up the good work, Scott, I 'll keep on priming.

Does anyone remember how many accounts where active at the end of 1997? I still remember that i started with a Pentium-100 and iirc that system was able to finish some exponents per month back then.

I started in Jan 2002 and, along with an Athlon XP1800, I used the reference machine: Pentium 90!
Good and reliable old Gateway2000 PC. I still have it at home, although it is not crunching for GIMPS anymore .

I suppose I'm a newbie...

Knew about it in 1997, but didn't signup until ...

First batch of systems were P66's. I've had up to 100 P3 Xeon systems running at one time (during client acceptance testing; yes I took them out of the loop correctly), but am back down to about 10 now. Even got up to the top 8 in factoring at one point, down to #17 these days...

When I merged into Team Prime Rib, the teams creation date became mine:

Account created: 30 Aug 1997 23:06 UTC :showoff:  :bounce:

I was something like the 2nd or 3rd account on Primenet.

Can't remember what I was running back then. I think it was a Pentium Pro 166mhz. :flex:

jinydu 2005-02-26 21:21

Is "challenge" the first Primenet account ever?

By the way, I joined during the verification of M40.

I should have said user, not account. :surrender: Or a beta tester... :alien:
