Dos Prime95

Does anyone know if it would be possible to make a dos prime95 or if it has already been done?

There is a REALLY old version available. Other than that you'd have to fiddle with the source code to compile it for DOS.

Where?

Where could you get this old version (for manual testing)?

Check this page. Note that what is available is v18 which does not include any optimizations for P4s or Athlons. It also does not include the latest error checking routines.

You can do manual testing (non-PrimeNet) with more recent versions.

v18 also cannot handle exponents above 20 million

Generally the best bet that I have heard brought up is to use a Linux "live" CD to boot from and keep the files on your hard disk. No need to install a new operating system on your comp.

If your computer is too old to run anything other than DOS, it's probably not worth running GIMPS software on anyway. My oldest computer that's participating is a Pentium 133 MHz. It's currently working on a trial factoring of M28507447, with an estimated run time of two months.

I could . . .

I could use it to factor, I just don't have any OS for it (except DOS).

There are linux distros that will run from a DOS partition.
