That'll clear out the 78-bit GPU candidates....My GT440 will get back to OBD in a few hours. I count around 36 candidates at 79 bits.

Lavalamp has expressed intention to get to levels 16 & 17 simultaneously, although monst my frustrate that by getting to level 16 before he is ready. Let's assume we reach level 17 soon, then ask about a new range. Opening a new range requires the tail to be not too far behind the head, using a doubling measure. Level 17 will be 17 candidates at 83 or higher, so we would need

17 at 83 or higher
34 at 82 or higher
68 at 81 or higher
all at 80 or higher

If we reach this point and there is sufficient interest, we will open a new range. If there isn't interest or if the leading edge first passes 9 at 84 or higher, we will continue until there is both interest and a sufficiently compact tail.

It takes me about 8 days to run 4 candidates from 82 to 83 bits, or I could do 2 candidates in just over 4 days. I have 5 and a half days left on the current crop of 4. So in 5 and a half days there will be 12 candidates at 83 bits, and a minimum of 17 needed to get to level 17.

So if anyone wants to take any of the three candidates currently at 82 bits, go for it. It'll help round out the level quicker.

It takes me 26-28 hours to get a candidate from 79 to 80 bits, so I'm gonna have to leave this 83-bit stuff to those with hotter cards and stay a junior mfaktc programmer.......
