Triple Checks- How are they disposed of??
I am curious as to the whole process that occurs after an LL test and a Double Check are turned in and they are different.
How are they given out to rectify the problem? When are they given out? Does it matter who gets the Triple Check? I understand that credit is taken away from the person giving the incorrect result, is that person notified other than being in a bad.txt document?? What happens when the third result doesn't match the first 2?? |
Every weekend when George updates the files on his status page, he looks at all the doublechecks that were turned in and whether they matched the first result. (Obviously done by some spreadsheet and program). If the result matches the exponent moves to LUCAS_V.TXT. If not, the second result gets added to HRF3.TXT Once every couple of months George goes through HRF3.TXT and sees the exponents that need to be triplchecked and have not yet been assigned out. He releases the exponents quietly.
When the third result is turned it the process repeats till two matching residues are found at which point all non-matching residues are moved to BAD.TXT So in theory it possible to have 5 or more unmatched residues which wait for a residue to match them. Nobody is informed when their test fails since George does not want to send emails - an abso nono! There are no controls on who gets a triple-check as they are assigned on Primenet like doublechecks and treated as such. |
There are some very low exponents in the hrf3.txt document. I would think that these should have been given out before this.
Aren't some of those exponents holding up the M38 proof?? |

Is there a newer hrf3.txt than 12/9/02? If not that's a bit more like 6.5 weeks old or were you thinking about the week old lucas_v.txt of 1/16/03? Then again perhaps I'm misreading again :) |
Latest that I can see on ftp site is Jan 16/2003. As George updates all the files there every week or so, I expect there will be a fresh one any day :D

Yes the latest HRF3.txt is from Jan 16 2003. Actually the file you download is hrf3.zip .
