Pocket PC
I don't suppose there is a Windows CE (Pocket PC) version of the Prime95 software ?
The reason I ask is because I recently bought one and it seems to have a 400Mhz processor, which would be quite worthy of at least some factoring while I'm not using it or when it's recharging. |
I think, you have a Xscale CPU (with ARM core). There is something: [url]http://www.craig-wood.com/nick/armprime/[/url]. But it hasn't been developed any further and might not be able to test newer exponents.
But I don't know if there is any factoring client. |
Are there any Pocket PC form factor units (or something similar) that use a x86 chip,
using a VIA CPU C3, ESP, Eden-n or an AMD Geode or some other one ? Running Windows XP or XPe or CE or Linux ? ( Prime95 or MPrime will work !) |
Euhm, I don't quite get your last sentence ? Are you saying that Prime95 works on Windows CE ?

Err... no. If the XScale is ARM-based, Prime95 won't run. The ARMPrime software is far too incomplete to run realistically. Not that it matters much, it's about 3x slower than Prime95 because ARM has no FPU. So 400MHz Xscale = 133MHz Pentium. |

Windows CE should/could run Prime95 if the CPU is x86.
The primary CPUs are SH3(SH4) ARM(XScale) MIPS and x86em For debugging CE/POCKET PC 2000/POCKET PC 2002/POCKET PC 2003 there are multiple emulators that run on the PC ( x86 code generated and virtual POCKET PC runs on the PC). There were x86 Windows CE devices but unfortunately I haven't found any POCKET PC devices with x86. Will continue searching. Maybe someone could try running OR compiling/running Prime95 under one of the emulators. The APIs are greatly reduced but if just KERNEL USER GDI and Winsock are used it should work. |

Not much luck yet, and I read that security features are not supported under emulation. Also NT, and CE may not be fully compatible.
