FreeSCO and mprime?
 

I am running FreeSCO software ([url]http://www.freesco.org/[/url]) on an old Pentium-166 system to put my LAN on the Internet. Since the router software would never notice the difference between the speed of the old 486 I used to run it on and the slightly newer :wink: P-166, there are zillions of unused CPU cycles going to waste. Has anyone successfully run mprime on FreeSCO?

FreeSCO uses a minimal LINUX core and can be booted up from a floppy, or can be run on top of DOS from a hard disk. Once booted, it runs entirely in RAM. I'm using FreeDos ([url]http://www.freedos.org/[/url]) and an old 170 MB hard drive. I'm not sure how to install mprime on the FreeSCO distribution, or if it is even possible -- the underlying Linux may not have enough support files to run it.

Any suggestions and/or help will be appreciated.

The mprime client may or may not work, but the sprime client should since it is statically linked and doesn't require any libraries to run. I can't say for sure whether or not it'll work on FreeSCO since I've never used it and am a relative newbie to Linux. On most Linux distros there is a file, etc/rc.local, I believe, that is a startup script you can use to mount drives, run programs, etc. So put the sprime client somewhere, add an entry to rc.local to run it on startup, and see if it works.
