Orphaned *.residues files?

1 Attachment(s)
There are a 5 *.residues files totaling 17 GB of storage space in my Prime95 directory. The files were last changed on 14th of May. Are these files orphaned? If they are, I'd like to just delete them. I have better uses for that 17 GB of drive storage.

Welcome to the forum.
Checking status of these exponents, they are all active current assignments, assigned in October or November:

Thanks for trying to help!

OK, so I shouldn't delete them :).

I recently changed the path for the directory to hold temporary files from C:\Prime95 to F:\Prime95_temp_files since C: is running out of free space. I hoped Prime95 would on its own move the existing *.residues files to F:\Prime95_temp_files, but this seems not to be the case?

Since I changed the path, Prime95 has created the attached *.residues files in F:\Prime95_temp_files. They were all last changed today, yesterday or on Sunday. Since the last changed times are in Swedish, I have translated them. It appears to me that Prime95 created new *.residues files instead of moving the existing ones?

With this added information, that I probably should have provide from the start, does that mean that the *.residues files in C:\Prime95 can be deleted manually?

Prime95 does not handle changing the directory containing the residues files midway through a test very well. In all likelihood the 4 PRP tests will now complete without generating a proof. Oh well, not the end of the world.

Yes, you can delete the files in C:\Prime95. I know of no easy way to merge the files in C: with the ones in F: (maybe someone else knows a utility that can do this)

There are ways to reduce disk consumption in the future.
1) Run fewer workers, each worker using more cores.
2) Reduce the maximum disk space each worker is allowed to consume
3) Use PreallocateDisk=0 in prime.txt (described in undoc.txt)

That's unfortunate, but I didn't catch the lack of free space on the drive until just recently.

As soon as I find the time to reinstall the computer, I'll replace the C: system SSD with a four times as large 500 GB SSD that I've already purchased. Hopefully it will be a while before that gets full.

Anyway, thanks for helping.
