What does this failure indication mean?

Hi,

after running the "blend" torture test for 4 hours and 12 minutes I got the following failure:

FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.4997515907, expected less than 0.4
Hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt file.

Does this mean I have a problem with the processor, or is it a memory problem? I don't overclock. I have 384 MB of RAM on a 700 MHz AMD Athlon Thunderbird running Windows XP.

Thanks,

krunsj

It means there is a problem with a piece of hardware or drivers.

Upgrade all drivers first. Including motherboard and chipset drivers.

Are you using an ATI video card or older ATI video drivers. These have caused problems for others.

Memtest your Ram.

Make sure your heatsink/fan are clean and functioning correctly.

Memtest-86 found no errors in 16½ passes (almost 10 hours).

Sorry if I am ignorant, but I don't know if I have an API graphics card. Is AGP contrary to API? In that case, I don't have an API graphics card.

Do you know of others tests I can run to check hardware?

What are your temps when prime95 torture test is running? What are your voltages?

After running 4 hours correctly, you are very, very close to a stable system. My *guess* is you are running close to the maximum allowable temperature or the power supply is just a tad weak for the task.

I can't check the voltages nor the temperatures at the moment, but it would probably be a good idea to install the necessary software. Thanks for the advice.

The thing is that I quite often get the SUMINP != SUMOUT during regular primality testing, AND I sometimes get a strange registry file error from Windows XP on startup, which in English is supposed to sound as follows (I have a Danish version of XP):

One of the files in the registry database had to be recovered by use of a log or alternate copy. The recovery was successful.

Not a very informative error message.

Anyway, thanks a lot for your help. I know it is not a serious problem, since the computer is running fine except for the XP error message, but it would be great if I could be completely confident with my system.

Just want to add that after having updated the BIOS I ran the blend test for 8 hrs 20 mins with no errors. Also, I have installed the probing software, and it seems that all temperatures and voltages are ok, even while running the blend torture test.
I have not experienced the Windows XP error since updating the BIOS, but then I have only restarted the computer a couple of times.
