AMD Sempr0n Prime95 benchmarks!!!

AMD Sempr0n will be the next value-marketed CPU by AMD, and it will replace AMD Duron. It is expected to be available for Socket A, Socket 754 and Socket 939. The website above includes a benchmark for Sempr0n 3100+ 1.8GHz 256K L2 cache with Prime95 and found it is much faster than Athlon64 2800+ 1.8GHz 512K cache! Obviously Sempr0n has a new CPU core with new optimisations! Rumours talk about a $120-ish pricetag. If this is true, Sempr0n will become a big success.

It almost looks like it is a 64 chip with the 64-bit extensions cut off(and most of the L2). This is a likely scenario, because alot of 64 chips are failing to make the Athlon 64 spec.

I wonder how it will overclock. :bounce:

Looks like the Sempr0n 2600+ will have a TDP of only 25W compared to the 73W of the new Intel Celery-D's. Well, we'll know August 22th :w00t:

But it's also true that CPUs with a working 32bit mode but a defect 64bit mode may also be used this way, but this will be a small percentage (the chance to hit just something, which is necessary only for 64bit mode is really small, in the single digit percent range)

poorly i think. the multiplier will be locked(knowing AMD), and there are not many good OCing boards for the new sockets yet.

You see the slower Sempron is actually using the Socket A motherboard. Which leads me to think, how the whole thing works and which core Sempron actually is. Is it the K7 core or the K8 core...

I am more interested in the multiprocessor capability of this processor.
It is widely speculated that Sempr0n is MP enabled. It is quite possible
judge from that we are not seeing higher graded MP. I suspect we will
see a spike in dual socket A board sales. I want Opteron but it is 3, 4
times more expensive.

Next thing is of course overclocking.

The price will have to be in check with Celerons. The D version seems
to be much better.

Hmmm ... Okay, why the 0-for-o substitution? Does this forum's software censor "Sempron"?

Apparently not. What about just "pron"?

Nope. So, is it just some folks' (a) habit to cope with censoring elsewhere, (b) protest of censorship in other fora, (c) humor derived from (a) or (b), or (d) what?

Why? They wrote Sempr0n, not Sempr0ff...
