Any versions of Prime95 compatible with Chrome?
I was trying to download the software onto a Chromebook I've had lying around for some time, but got the message with several downloads from the GIMPS page that those were incompatible with Chrome. Is there a way around this?

Does it have an x86 or Arm CPU? Prime95 only works on x86, you can try mlucas if using an Arm device: https://www.mersenneforum.org/mayer/README.html
AFAIK some chromebooks restrict what local programs can run so you may not be able to do what you want with either program even if the hardware should support it. |
Intel cpus are apparently common in chromebooks; I didn't see any obviously Arm or other nonIntel-compatible while skimming at https://zipso.net/chromebook-specs-comparison-table/
Chrome OS is related to Linux. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrome_OS So mprime or Mlucas MIGHT be possibilities. I didn't see any indications of VM support which would be required for prime95 which is compiled for Windows. I didn't recall mention of anyone running GIMPS software on chromebooks. A bit of forum search tool use yielded https://mersenneforum.org/showthread.php?p=542151&highlight=chromebook#post542151 nearly two years ago. And a longer thread a few months before that https://mersenneforum.org/showthread.php?t=25081&highlight=chromebook Try using the forum search function for something like "chromebook". |
I've got my eye on some other Windows models I've seen online locally and plan to make an offer. My goal is to quadruple the number of CPUs I'm running in the next few months. I've become an even bigger workaholic since my wife died, so I'm trying to pour some of that time, energy and resources into this as a fun distraction.

I don't want to run into a situation like I did a couple weeks ago with a factor being found via another site while my computer kept running the same exponent for weeks afterward. |
mprime = prime95 for linux. So, that one is equivalent entirely, including how it fetches work.

mprime is prime95 just with a terminal interface instead of a GUI, mprime works on windows/linux/mac, prime95 is windows only. Prime95/mprime are open source but with the caveat that the license is not technically FOSS (if a record breaking prime is found the money is split between GIMPS and the person running the software which means it's not free). mlucas is FOSS.
They are all considered part of GIMPS when using the built in work fetching routines, and they can all execute manually generated work to contribute to GIMPS or otherwise. |

And thus with the added functionality of being easily scriptable... |

There are no other sites. It was later explained in the thread that the "others" meant other people participating in GIMPS. Some do mainly tests, some do DCs, and some do the factoring, either TF or P-1, but usually some combination of these and some other things I didn't mention. The reason why your computer didn't notice the exponent was factored is I think still a mystery. |
