Since I just passed another "minor" milestone today, I thought I'd start a thread for personal achievements.

Any milestone is valid , small or large, as long as you think it is worth something
To justify this post, I need to explain the "personal achievement" and "milestone" involved. (They're pretty far-fetched.)

In 1982, I wanted to buy an Apple II and start my own software company, but needed a justification (and some cash or a big discount!). I found a retailer who'd hire me as a class instructor to teach his customers. My wife said she thought some type of kitchen assistant software, such as for calculating the re-sizing of recipe ingredients to adjust for a different number of servings, would be popular.

But after some thinking about the practicalities, I abandoned the plan and didn't get the Apple II.

Today, I stumbled across the following article.

personal achievement: First time I've read an article about cooking game software. ("Hey, that's what I should've ...")

milestone: As I said, "First time ...".

Okay, I just wanted to post the following in this thread.

"The Great Video Game Cook-Off"
Gamers tend to prefer the living room to the kitchen, but a slew of cooking games are aiming to change that. Of course, not all cooking games use the same high quality ingredients. Some focus much more on being fun games, while others are truly invested in helping you prepare meals. But which ones are the most well done? We dug in to find out.

My first 5,000+ Point PC

My Q9550 which is just over 18 months old surpassed 5,000 Ghz Days last night.

It took my entire Pool of PC's 5 years to reach 5,000 --- and I had 8 PCs by the 5th year; including this Quad for the last 5 weeks of the period.

Along with that 2 newer Quads: i5-750 and i7-860 both surpassed 2,000 recently - they are both less than 6 months old. :spot:

I finally got the chance to fix a computer that had stopped returning results back in February (it had crashed).

Sold!

...or at least I think it is. I have an accepted offer on my house. AFAIK, it has passed through the home inspection and is waiting for an appraisal, which is required as the buyers have an FHA loan. I didn't get the money I had wanted, but with the low interest rates, I can't complain too much. The only problem that remains is that I will be homeless in three weeks...

Day trip to Brighton

Had a better than average chat with a guy on the train
yesterday.
He was busy on his computer, but one of us brought
up the subject of prime numbers. He hadn't heard of
Mersenne, but he had heard of Fermat and Euler. He
suggested that "record prime number" was silly because
you just multiply them together and add 1.
I said there must be some flaw in that, buying the necessary
5 seconds thinking time before explaining to him why this wasn't
going to win him the prize!

BTW what is the smallest "status unknown" number ATM?
How many primes are known?

David
