I'm so proud I could pop. That would make me a popped pop, I guess. My son, Thomas Lipp:

I just finished testing M41166823.
Unfortunately, it wasn't prime. :( |
I just found the largest known "probable prime", if one defines that to mean a number which passes several probable prime tests, but has no chance of being proven prime with our current level of knowledge and technology:
http://www.primenumbers.net/prptop/prptop.php Thanks to George Woltman, Geoff Reynolds (for sr2sieve), and the pfgw crew (including, but not limited to Jim Fougeron) for the software that made the search possible and efficient! |
Wow! That's a fantastic find! Congratulations!

100 and counting
Just finished my 100th LL test ... just over 629 Credits ... 633rd place.
I also have found 25 factors a while back |
Over the line....
I just passed the somewhat artificial line in the LL Rankings where the points exceed the ranking number.
634 points gets me into 625th place. Today (June 2008) line is at 630. Feb 2007 the line was at 500. Feb 2006 the line was at 416. |
Our son inherited our highly sought after and collectible IBM ThinkPad X20 system, so we bought ourselves a new laptop.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&cc=us&docname=c01485328&printable=yes (We still want a NIB "Butterfly" Thinkpad someday, but the new one will have to suffice.) Anyways, we never booted the installed Vista and we purged the COA sticker. It booted and ran Linux (Ubuntu 64-bit in this case) OOTB. We are fairly certain the graphic drivers (1280x800 Intel X3100) have open source drivers but we suspect the wireless may be using something like NDISwrapper and a proprietary driver. We will look into this, of course. We try very hard to run 100% open source but sometimes we have to yield a bit. (NDISwrapper isn't loaded, so we are slightly optimistic.) The laptop is much bigger than we are used to, but our usage pattern has changed and it is really a desktop replacement to kind of save electricity. We'll never use the majority of "buzz word" features it has, but the basic and useful stuff works. Once 32GB SSD drives become a lot cheaper we'd like to try something like that out. Crucial lists a 32GB SSD at $600 now. The copper colored lid matches our mountain bike. Coincidence? Fate? You be the judge. We almost forgot to mention our family's new $40,000 piece of paper! We're afraid to figure out how much of that we still owe.
 The missus has been pursuing a degree (BSc) for quite a while. We tease her that lots of students take 7 or 8 years to finish school - like doctors and lawyers! :missingteeth: It took forever but she worked full time as a pharmacy technician at Duke through it all. Apparently (this confuses us) her working at Duke and getting a degree from UNC-CH causes her untold grief. If they weren't so darn expensive we'd spring for a set of UNC vanity plates for her car. The scary part of the whole process ended up being the number of tests. First you have to graduate from college. Then you take a super expensive written test. Then you take a legal test and finally you take a practical test. If you fail any of these you end up in limbo or driving across the country trying to find a test site. :spot: Anyways, this is the first college degree our family (both sides, as far as we know) has ever earned. (Kinda scary, huh!) :mike: We are very tempted to go back to school ourselves and get one of them pretty pieces of paper, but our third grade education needs some polishing! :poop: |
Celebrating 1000 factors found (on the V5 server, not to mention all of those for OBD and 100mdpp).
And vigorous climbing on the v5 stats. |

I finished my Bachelor degree this June. It cost well over twice your family's piece of paper though; and this is at a public school. |
