I just finished testing an exponent (M32391847) on a computer that had not returned any results for almost two years (since that computer is rarely on).

Unfortunately, it wasn't prime. :(
It's not the standard self-test that makes sure your computer is stable. It's a special self-test because the number was just outside of the range. It's not common, in fact it's the first I've had to do that in 11 tests (and, statistically speaking, should be far rarer than 1 in 11). Therefore, it's unlikely that you would have it in your results.txt file. Here it is from my results.txt:
Trying 1000 iterations for exponent 39509597 using 2048K FFT.
If average roundoff error is above 0.2425, then a larger FFT will be used.
Final average roundoff error is 0.24118, using 2048K FFT for exponent 39509597.

The file whatsnew.txt explains when Prime95 tries to use a lower FFT size.

New features in Version 22.8 of prime95.exe
-------------------------------------------

1) Soft FFT crossovers have been implemented. If you test an exponent that
is within 0.2% of the old hard FFT crossover point, then 1000 test
iterations are run to determine if the smaller or larger FFT is
appropriate for the exponent. Although not recommended, you can adjust
prime95's behavior to be more aggressive using the SoftCrossover and
SoftCrossoverAdjust features discussed in undoc.txt.
It would be interesting to find out how far you can exceed
the limit for a given FFT size before the chance of a fatal error
outweighs the % time increase for using the larger FFT size.

On the Jan. 15 update to the GIMPS (not Primenet) Top Producers list, I made it into the Top 500 for the first time. I was ranked #499 with 692.84 CPU years and 274 LL tests.

Congratulations! Watch out for that first nappy change!

btw I think 'fork()' would make a great name.
