Was this on a course you play regularly?
Yes, the public course in Boone, N.C. I learned a valuable lesson today. The game is easier if you hit your irons onto the green instead of scattering them somewhere in the general vicinity of the green. I don't know why I didn't think of that years ago. |
Came home 'today' (still up since last calendar date), to find water coming from the ceiling.

How is the post-flood recovery coming along?

I have moved everything out, except a microwave (which is on top of the refrigerator) trash cans and broom with dust pan.
I forgot to mention that I left my bicycle (~$400) on the back patio (attached to block of concrete that I used as a bike anchor), well sometime in the last 6 weeks it disappeared. On the other hand, I go the go ahead to move in on Wednesday. So, now have most of my possessions back there. Saturday night was the first night that I slept back at my place. Have not yet unpacked most things (2 bookcases were noted as a "total loss" by the insurance company's folks, so I have less shelf space that before.) Still looking for the box that hold my phones and internets modem. Here is a list of things that are new at my place now: Bathroom: lights, overhead heater, tub & tile shower (with new blue board & cement backer board, & doors), mirror & 'medicine cabinet', vanity cabinet (with sink & solid surface counter top), tile floor (from vinyl), door, towel bar, TP holder, & commode seat. Kitchen: new flooring, solid surface counter tops, sink, range hood, stove (the old one was the wrong size), & all of the drawer pulls, etc. Bedroom: light/ceiling fan Globally: carpet, base boards, paint, blinds (the workers broke the old ones :cmd:), all outlets & cover plates, & front door. Happy to 'be back', but still there is a lot of work to put everything back in order. |

VFR 800 or 1200?

Eek! That is the approximate displacement of the 1962-63 VW Bug my family had. I suspect that a modern Honda Four gets a lot more power out of each CC, than the ~40 HP of the VW. |
an update on my unhappy post which may or may not be entirely happy, but...
Finally got confirmation on the totaling of the car. And tomorrow I go pick up a check in trade for a title. It's slightly more than I expected. And at some point the other insurance company (which has accepted 100% liability) will be mailing me a check for my deductible. Now the unhappy (for me) task of car shopping begins. I wish the Elio was in production :) |
Went golfing today. On the sixth, I chipped a ball straight into the hole from 40 yards for my first-ever eagle. I choked on the ninth hole: shitty drive off the tee and a terrible bounce on my approach to the green sent my ball bouncing off the edge in a straight line away from the pin. A bad chip and a bad putt later, I put the ball into the hole for a plus-two, turning my 39 into a 41.
It's still my best round of golf ever (beating my 42 by one) but my good mood was slightly muddied by screwing up my sub-40. |

Thanks, to my colleagues at the Geological Survey of Sweden, for the nice flowers on my 50th birthday.
