Errata to my previous post: 1200 minutes for factoring from 70 to 71. I don't remember timings for 65 to 70. |

Those 2 timings should be nearly the same - since 65-70 and 70-71 bits both use the same modmul routines, 65-70 should need about 31/32 the time that 70-71 does. |

A question to mathematicans: where have new factors gone? We have reached a milestone: all deep mersenne numbers are factored at least to 2^71. |

A question to mathematicans: where have new factors gone?[/QUOTE]You're much less likely to find a factor between 70 and 71 bits than (say) 1-64 bits or 64-70, even though testing 70-71 is roughly as expensive as sieving from scratch up to 70 bits - it's unfair, but that's the mathematics of it. |

Thanks. I felt that there is a real explanation, not "Newbies are always lucky". So, we are going to 72 bits: M332192897 from 71 to 72 bits with mfactor. No factors found. 2493 minutes. |

Well...
At the moment I have a lot of stuff to do and too little time to do it in.. As a result I won't be able to do very much on this forum.. Therefore I'm encouraging someone to take over and run this project for some time. It is no big deal and I could mail a volunteer all the tools I use to update the site and he could move it to whereever he wanted or I could grant him the key to the current Geocity domain. Sorry for any inconvinence but I am simply over my head right now... OH |
