Life. Don't talk to me about life

Life is like the universe.

Without purpose and almost entirely cold, dark and empty.

There are a few highlights but they are mostly isolated and ephemeral in the overall scheme of things.

Bad lives. Reincarnation is a pain sometimes... :wink:
Bad lives. Reincarnation is a pain sometimes... :wink:
Life's a bitch and then you die.

No evidence for reincarnation or cyclic universes.

Why bother?

Non-zero probability... I agree extremely unlikely, but not zero.

I resonate with the Buddhist world-view that "the Universe reflects".

Why not?

It's a problem you can tackle with your intelligence like any other.
There are various ways of summarizing human psychological needs.
Here's one, based on scheme therapy (not schemes as an algebraic geometer would understand them!):

1. Attachment: safety, stability, being loved and accepted;
2. Autonomy, competence and identity;
3. Freedom to express justifiable emotions and needs;
4. Spontaneity and play;
5. Realistic boundaries and self-control.

If you're feeling bad, work out which of the above you are not getting when you need it,
and come up with a plan to fill the gap.

I almost used the "Life's a bitch" line in my response above. I decided it "sounded" too much like "Sucks to be You" which was opposite to my intentions. I understand depression all too well. It has been a companion for most of my life. I would not make light of it.
I hope things ease up for you, Paul.

Maybe some time by the ocean would help?
