All of that for playing a game. I suppose this is fine if a person has an extra $1,500 USD laying around. The local electrical utility company will love him. Local PD might check him out to see if he is running a grow-house.

The 3090 only has a 30W higher TDP than the 3080 and that's mostly for the 14GB of additional RAM. The 3090 is not really for gamers, it's a Titan without the branding, but that channel makes its living catering to over-excitable non-techy gamers and that demographic likes this clickbaity rarely-much-content style. That video has enough views for at least a few thousand dollars revenue from google ads alone and they have other revenue streams (sponsors, merch, even their own video platform) which probably have even better yields, it's hard to argue with the motivation even if the result is akin to reality TV.

That's not the whole story. Yes, sometimes they do stuff like this. But usually, they'll do "weird things", that no one would do for themselves. Mr. Sebastian said multiple times, that he himselfs sees the channel as a gateway for becoming an enthusiast. Yes, their Dyson sponsorship was really weird. Yes, their "showcases" are always sponsored, but at least they stick to their nomenclature.

You have to view that channel critically, that's correct. But that does not mean, that they do not adhere to non-casual gamers as well. I'm not a friend of their thumbnail and title style. But nonetheless, sometimes I really enjoy their content.

I have no beef with the channel or its style, it's just not aimed at me and that's to its benefit. The main good that they do from my POV is the Linux content, by appealing to who they do they are in a good position to sprinkle some love in some very positive directions once in a while.

Here are the ones I could find. Mostly gamer related or just a quick overview of the ecosystem. Doing the networking youtuber thing with Wendell shows that they made a proper effort to show the state of gaming on Linux. I think one of the newish hires brought Linux knowledge to the table and proton being in a decent state gives them a good reason to mine Linux for content.
