The BBC just published a photo of Queen Elizabeth using a rotary dial phone
(turned away from the camera so that you cannot read the number). Is pulse dialling still supported in the UK or have they just kept 1 old branch exchange for the town of Windsor?
I don't know about the UK, but I would assume that the palace has it's own PBX. And many PBX systems still accept pulse dialling and convert it to DTMF for the outgoing line. Or convert it to digital coding for VOIP, or whatever connection one has. |

It may be possible for me to carry out the experiment. Another possibility: it is still possible to purchase retro-styled telephones with current electronics inside them. |

Announced two days ago.
Correct. A search on "Brian Brenda Charles" should turn up the reason. Checking ... Yup. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_people_and_organisations_frequently_parodied_by_Private_Eye is fourth on the list in my attempt just now. |
Correct.
A search on "Brian Brenda Charles" should turn up the reason.
Ah, I didn't have "charles" in my search. Trying "uk brian brenda charles elizabeth" puts the reason at the top of the hit parade. I remember Prince Charles being parodied by a group called "Spitting Image" that used claymation figures to absolutely destroy the victims of their parodies. I remember Prince Charles with a bucket of fried chicken, tossing the pieces out, saying, "Fly, fly!" |

I hear that it is going to be revived RSN. Can't wait to see what the Trump puppet will look like. |
Update on the scandalous "orphan drug" sweetheart deal for Gilead Sciences I linked to a couple days ago - like I said, sunlight (bad publicity) is the best disinfectant:

There's an AP column about the 1919 Stanley Cup Final Series Not Completed because of the flu pandemic. I had never heard about it.

The one I remember is a birthday party dinner for the prez, hosted by Nancy R and Frank S. Genesis did a music video with some Spitting Image animation: Land of Confusion. Seems pretty apt right now.
