mprime tweaks
I just loaded Fedora onto my computer and I had heard there were tools to tweak the performance of mprime so it runs faster than Prime95. Trouble is, I have no idea what those tweaks are. So I thought it would be helpful to start a thread where Linux users can share simple tweaks to mprime to improve speed.

To be honest, even if you did a pile of tweaks that would sacrifice usability for performance (such as quanta sizing and scheduler mods) you wouldn't gain more than 1-2%...
Just run it like it is, and make sure you don't have any processes you don't need using up cycles... Spamd, sendmail and nfs are some services I would turn off unless you need them... Using a lightweight window manager like XFCE would save a lot of cycles too... |
Even better, don't start X at all. Run the box at init-level 3.

init level 3? What's that?

Linux has five levels of init. Level three, IIRC, is a text-only bash prompt, no GUI, that is, no GNOME or KDE interface.
