Well that was fun. I yanked 3000 ghz days out of collab before the GPU nazi took away my GPUs and restricted me to 1 session.

Does it seem more or less random how this is going to work - like I might as well wait till next week and try again for another long span, or it might just be a day or so?

It looks to me like the restrictions reset every 24 hours.

Well, I have not ever been able to cranck out that amount of work. Now it is more or less 2 hours each 24h realtime and when I return work to mersenne.org, it revolves to around 50-(IF REALLY LUCKY)100 GHz days per session. Really wish that Google could prioritize and tell us exactly how much time we have available each day and on what type of GPU we run... it would make it easier to plan what to work on and where to put the ressources we have :smile:

Yeah, it's a black box for sure. On the other hand, they are ***giving*** us this compute. Frankly, I'm surprised we weren't shut-down within weeks, like we were with Kaggle.

To report on my observations...

Of my twelve (12#) long-running accounts, they've all been regularly getting 2 to 4 hours per day. Each at (different) times of the day. Doing the Factory Reset trick invariably gets me a P100 or (more often lately) T4s (sometimes after a few iterations). And then I do the "RAM/CPU -> Connect -> Busy" trick to lock it in.

The new test account (number 13) I created last week was given three (3#) ten (10#) hour T4 runs back to back, but then hasn't offered up a GPU since. It will be interesting to see if it's ever given a GPU again. Perhaps Google has a sliding weekly quota?

Lastly, for some odd reason, one of the accounts always asks me to prove that I'm not a robot ("Recapta"). Annoying, but I figure my giving Google a bit of computer vision training data isn't a bad trade. And I've trained my own wet neural net to be really good at recognizing Buses, Cross-walks, Bicycles, Stairs and Chimneys... :wink:

... how little I get each day, is as you mention GIVEN to me and sure it just may take longer than hoped for... at least I don't seem to have any problem being given a GPU, as long as the 24h time span has been acquired... At least I've never been asked to prove that I'm human and the supply is steady, hence to some extent planable :smile: ... now let's hope Google is a little more sustainable compared to Kaggle.

You mentioned colab pro, for USD 10 a month, is that solution not possible for EU citizens?

Currently only available to US of A users. I don't have such a billing address myself, or I would have signed up long ago (even though that would mean no longer getting T4s).

Thank you, it did reset after 24 hours. If anything they're going a bit longer today.

It appears they don't necessarily reset after 24 hours if you haven't used your quota entirely in that 24 hours. Here's the current output line of my longest running session.

EDIT: I mean reset your session, as in kill your wallet. They may well have reset the quota, I don't know.

Have you really had a session run 24 hours and 14 minutes? I've *never* seen anything over 12, and that was last year!

I stopped trying to use my phone's account for a while. When I came back to it this weekend, I got tons of time. More than 12 hours in 24. Look at my recent prodigious output. All of that extra vs recent has been from that one account.

Ah, man... I SOOO need (or, at least, want) to start graphing all this wonderful data!!!

(It's being collected... Maybe I'll have a few cycles to do some SQL and D3 coding over the weekend, as a refreshing (and tractable) tangent.)
