Mwahahahahaha... I sent news tips to the local media around my area... I wonder if they'll say something about it...

The real question is, does Mister Findley hang out here?

I don't think so by the sounds of it.
And since it's now verified, can the PrimeNet front page be updated to show VERIFIED: 2? It would be really cool to see that seeing how rare Mersenne primes are.
It has been updated:
Prime, VERIFIED : 2

As you've already noticed, we've gone public with the news. Scott sent the press release to 20 contacts - we'll see what develops.

I'm not sure we'll get much press coverage given that we found a prime just
6 months ago and this is a holiday weekend in the U.S.. The superfast verification also didn't give us a chance to work on building up the interest level of a reporter or two.

But that's OK - the most important accomplishment is finding the prime. Of secondary importance is getting the word out to boost GIMPS participation.

I just did the last few thousand interations of the prime number, and I have to say that the Prime95 program behaves interestingly. First, it floods the output screen with "New Mersenne Prime Found!!! M24036583 is prime!...", and the taskbar thing highlights its self and stays highlighted. Then, after a delay of about 2 minutes, the sound starts trickling thought. It's that Windows error sound. It gets annoying after a while

One thing I noticed, which may be a bug, is right after the winlogon task was using up 50% of the CPU for no apparent reason. This never happened before. I had to restart my sytem to make it stop.

Yeah, so that was my experience

Since the client is mentioned on http://www.mersenne.org/, I'm curious if I have the most current version. I show 23.8.1. When I look at http://64.66.6.250/gimps/, I see the most recent version is dated February 2004.
