I have updated my fetch tool. It now can show me the Categories automatically. I currently only have it check against the first 3000 assignments. So it only captures part of Cat 3 properly. How much interest is there in that range?

I'm interested in any triple check.

I have some current ones for you that are not yet assigned. At the moment I only do first-time tests.

Why are we managing these manually?

I have a general, high level, and possibly stupid question about this thread:

Why are we managing these checks manually? Why are any humans involved in manually doling out and coordinating assignments?

Shouldn't this all be coordinated by the server? (And eventually every exponent will get double- and, if necessary, triple-/etc. checked anyway). So why not just let the GIMPS server handle all this?

The difference is a human would choose the DC curtisc vs. anonymous, because he knows that anonymous often has wrong results and curtisc sometimes. Means a better chance to find a prime.

One thing makes little sense to me. Why does the fastest processor get the smallest exponents and not the other way around?

That may or may not be the case. But whatever rules might be "optimal" regarding which numbers should be double- or triple-checked first, could still be encoded into the server.

Yes, of course, but that's probably not being done at the moment.

To my another statement. I realize that the creators of the project are entitled to create a slightly better chance of finding a prime number for themselves after 25 years of computing. Even though individual people now have twice the computing power as the rest of the users. Nevertheless, I think that overall a slightly higher throughput could be achieved if the assignment rules were different.

It's not for that reason. Before these rules were introduced, the smaller exponents assigned to slow computers (either from speed or not being powered on) were often poached by other users who wanted to reach milestones: thus wasting the effort of those slow computers. It's better to have the slow computers finish assignment before they're in danger of being poached.

I am interested in double(triple) check.

New TC: [M]53571863[/M]

This time it should not be a gpuowl FFT issue, because the 10 other DCs in the batch matched.
