the classic 79,3 limit

What is the classic 79.3 limit in www.mersenne.org/report_milestones?

For many years, 79.3million was the limit that Prime95 could test.
The milestone and status page was this with the milestones below. As each level associate with an FFT size was completed (DC'ed), it was collapsed into the top row.

Why does the GIMPS milestones page indicate
Countdown to verifying all tests below the classic 79.3 million limit: 19
but when you click on the number only one active test is displayed?

Never mind, I just read the posting in the newer milestone thread.

New features in Version 24.12 of prime95.exe ~2009
2) As a side "benefit" even larger FFT sizes are now supported. This allows
testing of exponents up to 596 million. Not recommended.

New features in Version 19.0 of prime95.exe ~1999
2) New FFT lengths. The program can now test exponents as large as
79.3 million. Also, smaller FFT lengths are supported for use in
ECM and P-1 factoring.

New features in Version 16.1 of prime95.exe ~1999
1) Prime95 can now test exponents up to 20.5 million.

New features in Version 12 of prime95.exe ~1997
3) The program can now test exponents as high as 2,630,000!

I remember at the times, thinking it would be a long time before it would need increasing from 20M or 79.3M; then the 596M capable release came along and we're set for life.

I just took a look at the page: only 13 "Status unknown", corresponding to an effort of 470 P90 CPU-Years. I remember, some 15 years ago or so, the latter figure being well over 27 million!... We came a long way, no doubt. :showoff:

No more unknowns!...

"Only" 596,735 DCs to go, as of now.

I wonder when can we expect this amount will go down to <10,000 ?
