Suggestions for a Week on Europa?

Due to a scheduling SNAFU, SHMBO and I will arrive in Zurich on May 27th and be footloose until June 2, when we need to be in Basel. We are looking into ways to spend that time. We've been to Brussels, Paris, and London recently enough that they don't appeal. One of us has walking limitations, so hiking adventures are out. Suggestions are welcome.

Various mountains in Switzerland have railway lines, allowinig you to see the stunning views even if you can't walk (though the tickets can be quite expensive).
You could head for Geneva and enjoy the lake, and a visit to CERN perhaps.

Munich is quite nearby and well worth a visit.

If you're willing to travel further, you could go to Venice or Marseilles, ....

Have a great time, anyway!

I would be inclined to get out of Switzerland for as long as possible, since it's extremely expensive. Venice is utterly amazing; Florence or Rome or Naples are well worth the visits (does 'walking limitations' mean you don't want to walk around city centres and old monuments, or just that you don't want to climb mountains?)

Vienna is very pleasant, and you could stop off at Munich in either direction; the Deutsches Museum in Munich is a science museum in which I happily spent two and a half full days.

In the general vicinity of Basel, consider a boat cruise on the Rhine. The area around Lake Constance (Bodensee) is also flat with lots to see and do around and on the lake.

If you decide to stay in Switzerland, consider getting the half fare card for the trains/transit. It will pay for itself very quickly.

Also keep in mind that almost everything is closed in Switzerland on Sundays.

Italy has many nice places you could visit that are neither famous nor well known, but have all the rights to be viewed:

Bergamo, and its high old city on a hill (Bergamo Alta) is a medioeval city whose newest building dates 1500.
The "Italian lake district" (Lago Maggiore, Lago di Como, Lago di Garda) offers a nice visiting path through the Italian country.
Mantova is another historic city surrounded by beautiful walls.
Turin has been the Capital of Italy for half a century, and has nice buildings too.
Bolzano (Bozen) and the South Tyrol is more likely a small region of Austria than a set of Italian villages.

We have the location sets of movies like Star Wars, beautiful seasides, mountains, old cities like Ravenna, the capital of the Western Roman Empire, the medioeval Lucca, Como and its lake, and all the previous locations are less than 200 miles from the Italian border.

If you travel in the neighborhood, think about making a small detour...
