Carlos, that Tom puts his computers in an outbuilding should give some indication of the amount of bother you'd have to deal with moving that monster into your living area. Maybe you can pay Tom for the electricity to host it in place :)
Ah, I see - I only saw things from the seller side for the one item I sold this way, now that I check the fine print, I see what you're talking about, i.e. the buyer still pays the extra international-fees:
So much for my evil scheme to get eBay to subsidize all my future international mailing this way. :) (I really did think that due to their economies of scale they could do this on the cheap, at least between high-traffic countries. Or maybe they do, but still charge the buyers 'retail'. and pocket the difference.)
For instance, look at this GTX 580. The current bid is $40, but the shipping charges are $31.14, and import charges are $9.31. So the total cost would be $80.54. It used to be only $20 or so for shipping, direct from the seller. |

Hi Jasonp, now I live in a house with a garden less than an hour driving from Tom’s so probably what I would suggest to him when we have our annual meeting (with Paul and David) at my house to discuss this subject since I need some support to persuade my wife to buy a shed and have that machine running. I really would like to add more memory to support NFS post-processing with free logins to the guys here to add work in case I’m abroad. |
Does your machine use ECC (registered, I think) DDR2? If so, I have some sticks for you. How many empty slots do you have? I think I have 12-16GB worth of 1GB and 2GB sticks.
I think I still have dozens of 1 and 2GB DDR2 ECC modules. So please, someone take them from me. LOL |
