I like the project and all, but calling it "gimps" has always rubbed me the wrong way (is that a horrible case of "no pun intended" since we're talking about gimps and all? Certain meanings of the word are... unfortunate thanks to a little movie called Pulp Fiction)

Considering Pulp Fiction came out in 1994, 2 years before GIMPS started, I'm pretty sure the acronym was intentional. After 22 years and 16 primes found under that name, it is waaay to late to change it now. Why would people be more offended now than the last 15 prime press releases?

Besides if you google gimps, this project is all that is on the first page. Only under image search is the possibly offending gimps.

When the possibility of renaming Prime95 came up (sometime in the early 2000s) George said 'you name your kid once'.

We can call it the "Great GIMPS Search" like a fun example of [URL="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAS_syndrome"]RAS syndrome[/URL] :razz:

I like the name. Even if it was renamed, everyone would still call it gimps regardless :P
