Mlucas and mprime on the same box
Admittedly I haven't gotten Mlucas up and running yet. (Very close though!)
That said, can/should I run Mlucas (on my GPU) and mprime (on my CPU) on the same box? As I read through the README (as I setup/install Mlucas) it appears that the CPU is used too. I just am not sure if I'll adversely affect the computation of either/both programs by using both on the same computer. |
Dangit! I think I worked with the wrong program. It appears Mlucas runs on the CPU.
Time to start over. (That is what I get for jumping in/out of this project throughout the day.) Did I mention that I hate multitasking! :-( |
MLucas is indeed CPU-only software. It is designed to be more portable than Prime95/gwnum, to architectures other than x86 (though it does include assembly for some targeted architectures). On x86 it will (more or less necessarily) be slower than Prime95, but on other architectures it is essentially the only choice.
GPU software can be found here, even though it's technically a "hardware" subforum: http://mersenneforum.org/forumdisplay.php?f=92 |
I've run CUDALucas and mprime on the same box, no problem.
Not Mlucas, though, as you mention, it runs on CPU and competes with mprime. |
Thank you both for not making fun of me in my stoopid error. :-)
I had multiple web browser windows open to the different projects and I mistakenly followed the wrong instructions! |
