I dont think that he had an other Mersenne prime, maybe just a false positive.
Nothing I'm aware of, for what it's worth. |
M50 release?
Madpoo, do you have an idea of when M50 might be released today? I apologize for being impatient, but I would have thought it would have been made public earlier. Thanks.

To the best of my knowledge, George should be putting the final polish on the press release and getting the home page updated. I'm not sure of the exact process but I do recall from last time that he has a few press contacts that he sends it out to specifically where it's likely to get traction. In other words, I have no idea exactly when, but today sometime. EDIT: just heard from George that it's imminent! |
M51 is already discovered and I will announce M50 and M51 together tomorrow GMT 08:00, Jan 04.
FYI: M51 is bigger than M50. The exponent of M51 is a Twin Prime (again). The number of decimal digits is > 32 million.
Are you just pulling our collective legs? Inquiring minds want to know since Primenet isn't aware of anything beyond the one about to be announced today. If you're serious and this wasn't some strange joke that fell totally flat (if people have to ask if you're joking, it's not a good joke) then I'm assuming you came upon it using your own code, not Prime95. |

Imminent, indeed!
Breaking News! Computer reports discovery of 50th known Mersenne Prime!! December 26, 2017 — One of the project's computers has notified the GIMPS server of a new Mersenne prime. If verified, this will be only the 50th known Mersenne prime. Several independent verifications using different programs and different hardware are underway. A full announcement with all the details will be made here shortly after these verifications complete.
|

Yeah... use of George's software has explicit agreements regarding usage: https://www.mersenne.org/legal/ Sounds weird, but whatever. Happy to be proven wrong. It's just, we've seen some weird claims over the years from people who think they've stumbled on some secret way to find primes super fast in some clever way, but when pressed for details, they vanish. CempLLA anyone? |

Congratulation to everybody! :D :) I just wanted to say thanks to both schools I´ve attended so far and convinced to participate in GIMPS.
BTW, technical question (offtopic): Is there any software that I can run on my GPU (AMD Radeon HD 7650m) that allows me to do other assignments as well, not just TF? I´ve been running TF for quite some time and I am just wondering if there is any chance I might get to do something like a double check on GPU. Is that possible? Note: I don´t have much knowledge about hardware and computers generally, so please make explanation as easy as possible. Happy New Year to y´all! :) |

I always enjoy watching these graphs go bonkers for a few days after an announcement... Also, we should get a nice bump in DC'ing because of the new assignment rules. :tu: |
