No, no changes. I just got everything either factored out or to 60 bits.
Is that the same file you sent me some time ago?

I've just released the next range of 1000 in exponent values.

Yeah, you both got the same file. I haven't done any more work in the range that is 'not yet open', nor do I plan to, I plan to work in the open range like everyone else.

Thank you Unncwilly!

The new range has been updated on the Italian page too.

OK, it's time to bring out the big guns. I'm going to be replaceing my dual Pentium 3s with my old Athlon XP. The thing does 2200 MHz rock solid.

Creating a WinXP service

Hello there,

I wonder if I can run (factor3_2.exe -r ) as a WinXP servise so as to run with _low_ priority by default. You see I do many things with my PC and even at _normal_ priority, it's a little bit annoying.

any advice is welcome..

Just hit Ctrl-Alt-Del, go to Priorities, right-click factor3_2, go to Set Priority, and click low.

 I admit I'm using a 2.2 Athlon as well. It still takes ~2-3 weeks to do 2^72 to 2^73 depending on the other number crunching I'm doing.

 3 @ 2^73

Make sure that you are using the latest version of Factor

Doorbasher 2004-12-20 09:09

OK, I confess, my machine hasn't been doing anything lately. The upgrade to the Athlon didn't go smoothly... Long story short, several OS reinstalls and a brief stint with Win98SE. I'm back up and running now.

I hate having to double-post like this, but there dosent seem to be any edit button...

Anyway, just a quick question. Will the factoring program stop as soon as it finds a factor, or will it continue up to the specified depth? e.g. if I was factoring a number from 2^70 and 2^71, and it found a factor around 70.5, would it continue up to 2^71 anyway?
