Prime95 appears in Gibberish
1 Attachment(s)
Hello, I am trying to stress test my PC with Prime95, but the GUI appears in gibberish and I can't do anything. I have attached a file showing the problem. Help is appreciated.

I think you need to reboot your system, or reinstall P95, or maybe both.
|
Ttied both, it seems to be also a problem with powershell. :S
|
Some sort of system encoding problem?
|
I honestly don't know. I tried chcp command to change it to english but it didn't affect prime95.

What version of Windows are you using?
You might have a setting in your control panel for "region and language" where you can choose the language Windows uses for non-unicode programs that might be different than your current language. |

"but it worked before" is the unofficial motto of Windows 10.
You might try changing the region and/or language to 'English UK' or Australia, or something you might still be able to recognize, save/reboot, and then change them back to see if it might still reset whatever is causing the issue. |

What version of Prime95 were you using? Was it the latest 29.x or was it the current "stable" release of 28.10? You might try a different version just to see... The stable version would have a filename: p95v2810.win64.zip But you can try downloading (from the same location), this filename instead: p95v289.win64.zip Or even: p95v277.win64.zip The Primenet server doesn't have a lot of older versions stored there, but other archives probably go as far back as you could ever want. Typically though, I don't think George tweaks the interface that much, at least not to the point where I'd imagine it spitting out junk depending on the region settings in Windows, but I guess it could happen? |

One other thing you can check or try is regarding the fonts your system is using. If one or more of them has some funky decoding, you might try restoring defaults.
1) Open Control Panel and go to Appearance and Personalization. 2) Now under Fonts select Change Font Settings. 3) In the new window that opens, under Font Settings, click Restore default font settings. Whether that works or not, you might also want to check your system restore points. If you know this is something that just recently started, do you have any system restore points prior to the issue that you can rollback into? |
