pseudonyms

I find most fora members use pseudonyms instead of their own names. Any rational reason for this?
I find most fora members use pseudonyms instead of their own names. Any rational reason for this?
That's a very loosely guarded secret.

My handle is shorter to type than "Charles R Greathouse IV".

I started by using my surname and name, then I asked to change that to my prime95 ID. I saw only drawbacks at being visible and recognisable. Especially since the whole forum (except a few password protected or private subfora) is referenced by google.

I compensate that anonymity by signing all my posts with my first name.

Speaking of rationality, I invite you to search the "金継ぎ" included in my side panel. That the fora to a certain extent tolerate instances of enthusiasm outstripping knowledge and experience is demonstrably true by my very presence. My forum handle serves as a continual reminder to consider and respect both sides of conversations.

Nobody: My name is Exaybachay, 'He Who Talks Loud, Saying Nothing.'
William Blake (repeats slowly): He who talks... I thought you said your name was Nobody.

Are you a practitioner of this art?
EDIT: Or is this symbolic of keeping the forum patched together?

No. But doesn't it by dint of effort and emphasis present a crackpot as something potentially admirable?
