messed up computer
Hi,
my AMD FX9350 was running 2 tests with 2 threads. 700Watts PSU, 990FXAUD3 motherboard was drawing too much power and is now unusable. The PSU's had it too. What can I do to prevent this from happening in future? |
It looks within specifications. Does it have a graphics card installed in it? What is the make and model of the PSU? Have you checked the mains plug fuse? Also most modern PSU have an automatic fuse that fixes itself after a while -- you might have to wait for a few hours.

What brand and model PSU?
|
G7 Power Extreme 750W
The 4 wire power socket on the mobo is fried. The plastic plug from PSU melted. Expert told me mobo is dead. |
Are any of the (destroyed) parts under warranty?
|
Not sure.
The shop I bought the PSU from has shut down. The guy still repairs computers but he goes around in a car. The motheboard might still be. Does the reciept count as right of warranty? Wouldn't they have to know the cause? |
Yeah a receipt should be enough -- for what length of time, I don't know. The cause is not known -- it was not fit for purpose.
IMHO, get a Corsair PSU next time -- it needn't be 750w -- big enough to handle a graphics card should you decide to install one. |
Will a 550W one work with the mobo?

What is the load? |
How do I work out the load?
CPU + is my guess. |

This might help you calculate the load. My guess is a 550w would be enough for just the motherboard and basic things like RAM, HDD, etc. but not for a fairly beefy graphics card. Can you be more specific about the model of the PSU? |
