Don't worry, you can leave your bedroom on xmas day as a special treat as long as you have a hall pass signed by the queen. I'm still in tier 2 but my xmas plans have been taken out back and shot. As all the ports are shut there will be a short term run on food because people are idiots, perishables are the main things disrupted but panic is inevitable so a run on everything is likely. They need to announce that ports will reopen soon and they need to announce it today. Despite it being xmas where anyone with a brain is already well stocked, people will induce a shortage anyway if left to their own devices.

The difficulty is that if everyone else is panic buying $THING then there might be none left for you, so you are now tempted to buy more of $THING than you might otherwise have done, thus perpetuating the problem.

From March, said by everyone everywhere: Oh f..., toilet paper is running low, I'd better buy it now before there is none for me.

Bedroom activities are much more fun.

Can’t understand the news about vegetable shortages (sainsbury), thought you only ate chocolates, sandwiches, fish and chips.

Our Christmas was decided a couple of weeks ago when we decided to cancel today’s travel to homeland and we don’t expect to return before next year Christmas’. I’m not sure my wife can take the current vaccines due to allergies. Will need to look at the Oxford one in more detail. Anyway, hope you manage at least to be with your family within the bubble rule.

I worry that the forthcoming lettuce shortage is just the tip of the iceberg.

Meanwhile, some parcel delivery services into the UK have been suspended.

Parcel services INTO the UK being suspended? I'm not sure I see the logic behind that.
:groan: Meanwhile, some parcel delivery services into the UK have been suspended.
As far as I know, only passenger traffic into the UK is prohibited, freight traffic shouldn't be affected. Sorry, spiegel.de indeed reports the cut of off the connection.

Stay safe.
