Reading the AP story Major defeat for British PM as lawmakers seize Brexit agenda my mind boggled as I read the following:
Johnson insists the potential threat of leaving without a deal must remain as a bargaining chip in negotiations with the EU.
This reminds me of the scene in Blazing Saddles where Sheriff Bart draws his gun, puts it to his own head, and in a bass voice says, "One move and the n:censored:r gets it!"
The one thing that has helped focus minds in the EU is that we’re leaving come what may and we’ve got a very focused task of what a good deal would look like," Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab told ITV. "But the lingering doubt they’ve got is: Will the shenanigans in Parliament somehow lead to the cancellation or the delay of Brexit?

"That’s encouraging them, and weakening our position to actually get the deal we all want."
"The deal we all want." What deal would that be? Does "we all" include the EU? From what has happened in Parliament since the referendum, it seems the answer to that would be, "The EU? Who are they?"

My ass has been granted settled status, less than 48 hours after application. My wife's is awaiting hers, we submitted only yesterday all her paperwork since she had to prove her residence of a few periods of time for different years since we moved in, nothing that we weren't expected.
Important information
Your status
As you now have settled status there is no time limit on how long you can stay in the UK.
Your settled status gives you the right to stay in the UK under UK immigration law. At the
same time, you can also continue to rely on any rights you have as an EEA or Swiss
citizen or family member of an EEA or Swiss citizen under EU law for as long as it
remains in force in the UK.
This letter is not proof of your status in the UK. Your status is linked to the passport,
national identity card or biometric residence card that was used to apply for the scheme.

PS(Need to unpack my stuff, thought I was going to be deported...now let's see if I unpack my wife's stuff too..lol)

PS(Need to unpack my stuff, thought I was going to be deported...now let's see if I unpack my wife's stuff too..lol)
Incidentally, why did you think you were going to be deported? You've a secure job, paid your taxes, have lived here for some years and, as far as I know, you do not have a criminal record.

I'm not worried about being deported from Spain for much the same reason. The fact I and SWMBO each have a NIE (essentially a residency permit) is the reason for my optimism. Coupled with that is the observation that Spain and the UK have a remarkably large number of hostages in each others countries. Expelling them would be excessively expensive, both politically and economically.

I’m joking Paul.
"This letter is not proof of your status in the UK"
It sounds as if the British authorities are informing people that they now have settled status without issuing documents that could be used to prove it,
whether to a third party (such as an employer) or, indeed, to the British authorities themselves if in 20 years, say, they can no longer find you in their computer.

Isn't this how the Windrush scandal started?

pinhodecarlos 2019-09-27 14:04

Every time I change passport I’ll need to update my records since the status is linked to the password. Was expecting to have a stamp on my ass!

Good point. Hmm. Giving a bit more of the quoted material (my emphasis),

<snip>
