Changes project?
Hey, i'm new to GIMPS.
I started yesterday and i have 2 workers who were working on 78246187 and 78246209 and out of the blue after about 24 hours (12:07) it decides to save the work on both of them and pick 2 new assignments. so i now have 2 workers set working on 75899647 and 76039787. why does it automaticly pick a new number? it saved both of them i believe as it states that i have 1.42% and 1.50% of them done. i have some logs from communication thread above: exchanging program options with server exchanging program options with server exchanging program options with server Restarting all worker threads Sending expected completion date for M78246187: Mar 06 2016 Sending expected completion date for M78246209: Mar 06 2016 Done communicating with server Restarting all worker threads using new settings exchanging program options with server Getting assignment from server PrimeNet success code with additional info: Server assigned Lucas Lehmer primality test work. it does this for both numbers and i get 2 new LL's. is it something i changed by accident? because this way i'll have 2 workers and 4 jobs. so i would have to can 2 off them otherwise they wouldn't be done in time. is it possible for me to switch back to the ones i used to have and unreserve this new ones (they are fresh, someone else can have them;) ) |
Strange. Did you change the "Days of work to get" preference to a large number? In worktodo.txt (or Test/Status menu choice) do you see 4 exponents to test or just the 2 new ones?
Yes, you can resume the 2 you started. Exit prime95. Edit worktodo.txt. Add the two exponents - one for each worker - using the same format as the 75M exponents. Restart prime95. Hope that helps. |
Thanks for the response,
i haven't really changed that much. i played around with the ram usage a little bit, but i don't think that should have any impact on it. the days of work to get is at 5 and i never changed it, i assume 5 is normal. besides that i didn't really touch any other options. i think i'll just finish the new 2 and extend the others. |

Based on the log you posted, your client didn't un-assign the previous two assignments (in the 78M range) that you'd already started work on (unless you redacted part of the log). So a very important question is: Do you see these in your worktodo.txt file, or are they gone? The reason I ask is we have had this (or, at least, possibly something similar) reported once or twice before, but never managed to nail it down. George and/or Aaron might be able to go through the logs to see what your client and the server "said" to each other (or, at the very least, what your client "said" to the server) which resulted in this. |
so the new ones are not in my worktodo folder. but they are being worked on. which is weird.
what i did was i first put the winzip on my desktop and then started immediatly with digging for gold so to speak. and it started dumping files on my desktop. which i noticed a few hours later. so what i did is i put all the files i had from this in a folder. and now my entire desktop is filled with more files that don't go to the folder they just pop up on my desktop which is a second problem. not sure sure if that is linked though |
^ this is in my worktodo folder. i also have 2 of them. 1 is a copy.
Eeep! Please don't ever post your worktodo file! There are secrets in there which "mean people" can use. (To be explicit, this isn't a security risk to your machine -- the worst that can happen is someone can use it to unassign your assignment, although that's very unlikely to happen.) Could a mod please redact the AIDs?
so the new ones are not in my worktodo folder. but they are being worked on. which is weird. ... and now my entire desktop is filled with more files that don't go to the folder they just pop up on my desktop which is a second problem. not sure sure if that is linked though
Interesting... Thank you for the empirical. I'll let others speak to what might be going on here. |
[Worker #1]
Test=××××××××,78246187,75,1 [Worker #2] Test=××××××××,78246209,75,1 ^ this is in my worktodo folder. i also have 2 of them. 1 is a copy. so the new ones are not in my worktodo folder. but they are being worked on. which is weird. what i did was i first put the winzip on my desktop and then started immediatly with digging for gold so to speak. and it started dumping files on my desktop. which i noticed a few hours later. so what i did is i put all the files i had from this in a folder. and now my entire desktop is filled with more files that don't go to the folder they just pop up on my desktop which is a second problem. not sure sure if that is linked though
It sounds like you have two copies of prime95 in two different places, and are confused about the locations of the files. |
changed it on my own post.
i have a 2nd worktodo file on my desktop with the 2 new ones.. so i think what happened is i "Removed" the old files (i moved them into a folder) and when i did that prime95 couldn't find them anymore and decided to ask for 2 new ones. so what needs to happen now is that i can find a way to get prime95's destination into that folder? this would erase both problems i think. |
changed it on my own post.

You can use a shortcut for your desktop, if you are launching it that way. If you stop Prime95 and do the following, you can keep all your assignments: 1. Stop Prime95. 2. Put all the files start with M in the same directory as Prime95. 3. Rename one of the worktodo.txt files to worktodo.add 4. Put both worktodo.txt and worktodo.add in the same directory as Prime95 5. Start Prime95. |
Thanks guys, really appreciate it. works now

Could the mods edit post 7 please to remove some information that shouldn't be there?
GavinMorris, the only "sensitive" part of the worktodo is the hex string. You may post the worktodo file in its entirety as long as you edit it to read
[Worker #1] Test=<long secret hex key>,78246187,75,1 [Worker #2] Test=<long secret hex key>,78246209,75,1
^ This format is a-okay. It sounds like everyone else is well on their way to fixing the issue. Thanks for joining  |
