One of the top ten represents many people.
I would doubt that, after seeing our anon user activity on slaying DCTF candidates... That is for sure a single user/entity with enormous computing power, and looking into PrimeNet tops, I still see a lot of anon users (proof that they are not all compacted in a single user on the server) and none of them did any big jump on "TF" or "All" top lists following the million GHzDays of DCTF. So the logic conclusion is that the one in cause is the one on the second position in top - he was always there and no place to go higher, and not long ago in the past he shifted (part of) his power from LL to DCTF. But that is a single entity. Anyhow, I take off my hat in front of the guy or gal! |

Incidentally, while *true* anonymous users do get lumped into one big group, it is possible to tell their individual contributions apart based on their computer ID, if they needed to be. It's helped me tremendously when looking for bad computers. Still doesn't help track them down since they haven't provided any identifying info (email address or name), so heaven forbid any of them ever did find a prime. I wonder what would happen... this was probably discussed before? Hope they contact George by email? Hire a PI to track them down using whatever info we have? |
(edit: reply to axn, crosspost with Madpoo)
I know about that, I just said I would doubt it. When I said "That is for sure a single user/entity" I mean "That one [which is killing the DCTFs] is for sure a single entity", because i can not imagine how you can (remotely) control so many users to make them do DCTF. Then, the DCTF work of this anon entity (one user or a million users) should have been seen on the PrimeNet tops, i.e. some anon guys jump 2000 positions, etc, leaving a trail, like the snail... and we should have now at least 2, if not more, anon users in top10. He did 1.5 PetaHzDays of DCTF, god dam! It should be here. But there are only 9 candidates, from which 3 don't have enough TF done, and others have legal user names. So the only explanation is that the anon in the lifetime top is the same one as the one killing dctfs. I can not think about "they" as being a million of little guys doing TF on CPUs (because that work is like 20 good GPUs, so it can't be a million guys with GPUs either, their computing power would be higher than the one shown). Also the management of all those little ants would be hell. So I prefer to see "them" as a single big entity. If they are more than one collected under the single name on PrimeNet, then our Gpu72 guy makes it for 99.999 percent of their computing power... Of course, all this post is just assumptions, and a big rant... |
What if Anonymous really is one guy who managed to build a bot net and decided to use it to search for primes, then realized many computers on his botnet had decent GPUs. Wouldn't that be interesting...

I truly don't know who the Anonymous user on GPU72 who is doing incredible amounts of DCTF is. And even if I did know, I couldn't say. But based on their behaviour, I suspect this is a single individual, or a very small group, who have access to a serious amount of GPGPU compute (much like you (airsquirrels)). But, likely, not via a "botnet". After all, someone engaged in such illegal activities would probably task that compute to mine coins, or crack passwords. |

Do the servers record the IP addresses reservations and results come from? I guess if someone really wants to be anonymous, that might scare them off. |
